Around the Big Ten: Dylan Wright talks his transfer portal plans

Dylan Wright officially entered the transfer portal in late March, the Minnesota wide receiver making some waves with some pretty big programs reaching out.

With two seasons of college eligibility left, Wright has already heard from Mississippi State, Purdue, Arizona State, SMU, Texas Tech, Louisiana Tech, North Carolina, Texas State and Michigan State since entering the portal. Last season, he had 17 catches for 280 receiving yards with a touchdown.

The season before, Wright had 365 receiving yards on 18 catches with two touchdowns.

A 6-foot-3 wide receiver out of Dallas, Wright was originally a Texas A&M commit.

Dylan Wright on where things stand since entering the transfer portal and leaving Big Ten program Minnesota

“I mean, in my head, I feel like I made a decision, but I haven’t gotten firm on it because I want to keep my options open. But at the same time, like yeah, I know what I want to do. I know that I want to stay at home, you know what I mean? But I can’t really just say what school yet because I don’t know, but I know I want to stay home for sure.”

“The main objective is (that) I’m just focusing on graduating. So that’s why I’m not like…I hear you all, I understand…I understand everything, but I need to make sure that I graduate, take my classes and do what I need to do before I even try to do all the extra stuff.

“That’s why I’ve kind of been laid back, making sure that it is ‘OK, what do I want to do?’ You know, I mean, I understand that I got to make my decision and everything but I really can’t slip up on this decision. I got to make sure it is somewhere that fits me perfectly.

“And you know, I should be secure and be like, be able to do what I need to do because Minnesota…Minnesota was a good school but it wasn’t a good fit for me. And I didn’t have my support system, which it hurt me at the end.”

Dylan Wright on if the changes at Minnesota and on the coaching staff impacted things

“Really, it did impact me just like, you know, believing in like what we have to do like for the season and all this type of stuff and like, I don’t know, I just kind of felt like I didn’t believe in like something – it wasn’t really there. I put my all into it and I really didn’t get anything out of it sometimes and I look back and think like ‘OK, I could have done this, done this better’.”

Dylan Wright on what he is currently doing

“I am in classes right now, I go every Monday through Thursday. So basically, I’ll just do that weekly, making sure that all my grades are together. I still can go to tutoring so I go into tutoring, do stuff with my tutor and stuff like that, but that’s really it. You know, work out you know, you got to stay in shape.”

Dylan Wright on his plans to announce his college destination

“So, I’m locked into my head, I know what I want to do, but I want to make sure it is the right decision.

“I don’t know, I could take the next week or so, weigh what I’m thinking, hear from the people I trust.”
