Arkansas – BYU: LIVE second half updates, scores and highlights

It’s been an action-packed first half from Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium as Arkansas leads BYU 24-21 at halftime.

The Hogs got off to a blistering start as they used a 55-yard touchdown run from AJ Green and an 88-yard punt return touchdown from Isaiah Sategna to jump out to a 14-0 lead.

It didn’t take long for BYU to respond as they answered with 21-straight points of their own to take a touchdown lead midway through the second quarter. The Hogs were able to respond with a solid touchdown drive to tie things up when Jefferson found Luke Hasz for a touchdown. A fumble recovery by Arkansas set them up for a Cam Little field goal heading into halftime.

BYU 1st Drive

BYU’s first drive of the second half doesn’t really get started. The Cougars go three-and-out after getting blown up behind the line on first down. Arkansas takes over near midfield.

Arkansas goes 53 yards in just four plays to open the second half. KJ Jefferson had a 19-yard scramble before AJ Green caps off the drive with a 7-yard touchdown run.

The BYU offense continues to struggle as they go three-and-out again. Arkansas gets the ball back at their own 28-yard line.

Arkansas is able to continue the momentum they’ve gotten over the last few drives. Faced with a 3rd and 5, Dubinion picks up the first down. Three plays later, TeSlaa comes up short on 3rd and 6, bringing up a 4th and 1. Arkansas decides to run the ball out of shotgun and it gets stopped short. BYU takes over in Arkansas territory.

BYU gets something going on this drive after the turnover on downs. On second down, Slovis gets hit late and draws a roughing the passer penalty on Arkansas. The Hogs’ defense comes up big two plays later as Jaheim Thomas and Landon Jackson sack Slovis for a loss.

BYU attempts to go for a fake field goal on 4th and 7, but it’s stuffed by the Arkansas defense. Apparently, they took too long getting set up so there’s a flag for a delay of game and BYU gets to retry the field goal. The kick is good and BYU trails 31-24.

A very productive Arkansas drive ends when KJ Jefferson gets picked off by Max Tooley. The Hogs were in the middle of a 6-play drive. BYU takes over at the Arkansas 20-yard line.

After the Jefferson interception, BYU only needs one play to to tie things up. Parker Kingston takes a short pass 20 yards to the endzone and the Cougars tie things up.

TIED 31-31

Arkansas finds TeSlaa on first down for a 15-yard gain. Armstrong picks up 12 yards over the middle two plays later and then AJ Green picks up 16 yards on the ground to end the third quarter.

END 3RD QUARTER: Arkansas 31, BYU 31

Arkansas isn’t able to pick up the first down in three plays and are forced to kick a field goal. Cam Little’s field goal attempt bounces off the left crossbar and is no good.

BYU is able to convert back-to-back 3rd and longs to keep the drive going. Slovis finds Keelan Marion for a 37-yard gain deep into Arkansas territory. Two plays later, Slovis finds Chase Roberts in the back of the endzone for a spectacular one-handed grab. BYU takes the lead with 8:00 left in the game.

Arkansas cannot pick up the first down and are forced to punt after a false start penalty on 4th and 1. BYU takes over at their own 24-yard line.

BYU 7th Drive

The Arkansas defense comes up big on this drive. BYU goes three-and-out after a big penalty on first down. Slovis is sacked on 3rd and long to give Arkansas the ball back.

After picking up just 3 yards on first down and an incomplete pass on second, KJ Jefferson is stripped by the BYU defense and fumbles. The Cougars recover and take over in Arkansas territory.

BYU takes over at the Arkansas 38 and the defense forces a 3rd and 5. Before the snap, Landon Jackson jumps offsides and give BYU a first down. The defense holds again and forces a 3rd and 12. Jackson comes up big and stops LJ Martin behind the line of scrimmage.

BYU is faced with a 4th and 15 and will attempt a 50-yard field goal. The field goal try is pushed right and no good. Arkansas takes over at their own 40.

It all comes down to this.

KJ Jefferson is hit on first down and fumbles but it’s recovered by Brady Latham. Jefferson finds Jaedon Wilson and Andrew Armstrong on back-to-back completions into BYU territory. Next play, Jefferson scrambles for 15-yards, but it’s negated by a holding penalty.

1st and 20 for Arkansas from the BYU 44-yard line. The offensive line cannot protect Jefferson as he’s hit while he’s throwing on 3rd and 18 after multiple penalties. On 4th and 18, Jefferson finds Hasz for a first down. Sategna catches a 5-yard pass and gets out of bounds.

12 seconds remaining. Jefferson throws it away but there’s another holding penalty. On the final play of the game, Jefferson is swarmed and sacked before tossing it to an ineligible offensive lineman. That ends the game.
