Arizona Republic's high school baseball rankings after Week 3

Here are The Arizona Republic's high school baseball rankings through the first three weeks of the season. There are spring tournaments this week, so much can change in this season of parity. The Republic's Super 10 comprises the best teams, regardless of conference.

Super 10

1. Phoenix Sandra Day O'Connor Eagles, 7-1

Led by outfielder Hustyn Wheeler, the Eagles stunned two-time defending 6A champion Chandler Hamilton 6-3 last week.

Basha infielder Gavin Smith (10) celebrates a double against Hamilton during a game at Hamilton High School in Chandler on April 4, 2023.

2. Chandler Basha Bears, 6-3

After a 2-3 start, the Bears have won four games in a row, including a 5-3 win over previous No. 1 Queen Creek Casteel, as Gavin Smith hit a home run. He homered twice last week.

3. Casteel Colts, 5-1

Following the two-run loss to Basha, the Colts dominated Chandler 15-1. They face a tough task Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. against Peoria Liberty in the first round of the Boras Classic at Tempe Corona del Sol.

4. Hamilton Huskies, 3-2

They're regrouping some this year with several new players, but they'll be back in the end, knocking on the door for another 6A title under legendary coach Mike Woods.

5. Gilbert Highland Hawks, 6-0

They're the only unbeaten team left in 6A. Are they for real? Wins over Mesa Red Mountain, Mesa Skyline and Gilbert Campo Verde give credibility.

6. Phoenix Brophy Prep Broncos, 6-3

They have one of the best pitching staffs in the state. If the offense can play consistently strong every game, they've got a chance to go all the way in 6A.

7. Scottsdale Saguaro Sabercats, 7-2

With left-hander Cam Caminiti dominating on the mound and at the plate, this 4A team has a chance to be special. They'll find out more about themselves Wednesday when Caminiti takes the mound against Bishop Gorman at noon at Corona del Sol in the Boras Classic.

8. Scottsdale Horizon Huskies, 5-1

Since opening with a 1-0 loss to Gilbert Williams Field, they've reeled off five straight wins, including an 8-0 rout of Buckeye Verrado.

9. Tucson Catalina Foothills, 7-1

Picked up a 6-5 win over a good Tucson team last week. Junior Nate Shoemaker has driven in 11 runs in eight games.

10. Tucson Badgers, 4-1

They've shown great pitching through their first five games. Guero Hernandez struck out 10 and gave up two hits in an 11-0, five-inning win over Tucson Flowing Wells.
