Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Leandro Cedeno blasts 527-foot home run in minor league game

Leandro Cedeno might not be considered among the Arizona Diamondbacks' top prospects, but there will be plenty of buzz about him after Saturday night.

The 23-year-old first baseman unloaded a towering 527-foot home run while playing for the Amarillo Sod Poodles, the D-Backs' Double-A affiliate. Cedeno's big blast, which came off San Diego Padres pitching prospect Nolan Watson, came on a 3-0 pitch and was to center field, where it landed in a nearby parking lot. It had an exit velocity of 113 mph.

The homer tied the game for the Sod Poodles, who went on to win 7-6 in their "Christmas in July" game.

The MLB's longest home run in the Statcast era (2015) was hit by the Texas Rangers' Nomar Mazara in 2019 and was measured at 505 feet. Giancarlo Stanton has the only other 500-foot homer over that span, hitting a 504-foot shot in 2016 while still with the Miami Marlins.

But the record for longest homer in professional baseball belongs to former Milwaukee Brewers prospect Joey Meyer, who recorded a 582-foot shot in 1987.

Cedeno, who signed with the D-Backs last year after spending seven seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals' organization, is hitting .303 with a .545 slugging percentage for the Sod Poodles. His 18 homers rank fourth in the Texas League.
