Arizona Cardinals RB James Conner ‘could miss some time,' coach says

Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon didn’t provide any updates on the injury status of running back James Conner (knee) and safety Jalen Thompson (hamstring) while meeting with reporters on Monday at the team’s Tempe training facility.

Appearing on Arizona Sports 98.7-FM later during his weekly show with “Burns and Gambo,” however, Gannon said Conner might miss some time after getting hurt at the end of a 35-yard run during Arizona’s 34-20 loss to Cincinnati.

“I’m not quite sure yet, but it looks like a little bit of time,” Gannon said.

Earlier on Monday, the Cardinals announced they were awarded their waiver claim on Saints running back Tony Jones Jr. His acquisition follows last week’s signing of free-agent running back Damien Williams, a veteran who made his mark with the Chiefs.

That moves was likely made in response to Cardinals backup running back Keaontay Ingram suffering a neck injury in practice. Jones Jr.’s addition now comes on the heels of the injury to Conner, who twisted his knee and never returned on Sunday.

“James will be back at some point,” Gannon told Arizona Sports. “Honestly, just wanted to add another back for some depth there to make sure we’re ok there for practice and the game. Damien we added last week, so he’ll be up and we’ll try to get him going. Like where Emari (Demercado) and Keaontay are back, so we’ve got some options in there if James does miss some time that we can fill the void and play football.”
