Area basketball roundup for Feb. 15: Isaac Wunder's big game helps TDA boys edge Ethan at the Palace

Feb. 15—MITCHELL — Spurred on by Isaac Wunder's big night, Tripp-Delmont/Armour boys basketball squeezed out a 50-49 win over Ethan on Thursday night at the Corn Palace.

Wunder finished with 19 points, four rebounds and three steals in the contest, as the Nighthawks shot 42% from the field. Mason Reiner also helped power the Nighthawks to the victory with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Riley Spaans led the team with eight rebounds and four assists to go along with nine points. Payton Westendorf finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

After an even first half that saw TDA maintain a one-point advantage over Ethan, the Nighthawks opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run. The Rustlers were able to pull within five points by the end of the quarter, and Taite Klumb's free throws with under a minute to go closed the gap to within one. It was as close as Ethan came, as Rylan Gerlach's layup was just short as time expired.

Drake Gustafson was the Rustlers' leader on the scoresheet with 14 points. Gage Hohn finished the night with 11 points, Klumb collected eight points and Jack Bartscher had seven points for Ethan.

TDA (13-5) will participate in the Great Plains Conference Classic over the weekend, with a tilt against Marty on Saturday, Feb. 17, in Scotland. Ethan finishes its regular season slate with a record of 16-4.

Senior guard Ava Lingemann tossed in 12 3-pointers, tying a South Dakota girls basketball record, as Ethan cruised to a 59-32 win over Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Thursday night at the Palace.

Lingemann finished with a career-high 38 points to pace the Rustlers, who made 16 total 3-pointers in the contest. Marissa Storm and Rachel Klock each contributed six points, while Claire Mellegaard and Maddy Bartscher each connected on a triple.

For TDA, Megan Reiner led the way with 14 points, all in the second half, while Kinley Spaans added 13 points.

Thursday's action marked the end of the regular season for both teams, as Ethan enters the Region 3B playoffs at 18-2 and TDA heads to the Region 5B tournament with an 11-9 mark.

* Howard used overtime to defeat Viborg-Hurley 63-56 in its regular season finale. In the win, Abby Aslesen posted a double-double with 33 points and 11 rebounds, and Liz Albrecht notched 12 points and five rebounds and Ann Connor grabbed 15 rebounds. For V-H, Kendra Gilbert had 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

* Cecily Geaghan hit seven 3-pointers en route to 23 points, as Burke took down rival Gregory 71-50. Kailee Frank added 14 points, and both Paige Bull and Emmie Hausmann tallied nine points for the Cougars. Dani VanDerWerff and Ashlyn Vosika led the Gorillas with 14 points.

* A double-double from Abby Wagner helped McCook Central/Montrose hold off Madison 61-56. Wagner had 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 10 rebounds. Cami McGuire had eight points as well for MCM. Madison's Audrey Nelson tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds and Callie McDermott had 17 points.

* Berkeley Ziebart scored 19 points, and Parkston powered past Mount Vernon/Plankinton 62-48. Also for the Trojans, Gracie Oakley had 17 points and Keeara Oakley scored 13 points. Vanessa Hoffman scored a team-high 14 points for the Titans, while Reagan Rus had 13 points and Emilee Fox had 10 points.

* Natalie Becker's near double-double paced Canistota to a 53-32 win over Irene-Wakonda. Becker had 13 points and nine rebounds, while Kayla Papendick added 14 points and six rebounds. For I-W, Mady Peterson scored 13 points.

* Ashton Massey's 17 points, 12 rebounds and four assists powered Menno to a 51-40 win over Freeman Academy/Marion. Lexie McNinch added 11 points and seven rebounds, and Nora Robb and Ellyana Ulmer each scored seven points for the Wolves.

* A 22-5 first-quarter margin powered Gregory to a 61-32 victory over Platte-Geddes on Thursday. Noah Bearshield finished with 21 points and five rebounds for the Gorillas, and Daniel Mitchell added 14 points and seven boards. For P-G, Braxton Breukelman had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Hayden Sprik tallied nine points and two steals.

* Three Hawks reached double digits as Canistota defeated Irene-Wakonda 63-39. Brady Scott scored 21 points, while Brandon Kjetland had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Tage Ortman also tallied 11 points and six assists. Brody Johnke scored 11 points for I-W.

* Howard secured a one-point win over Class B No. 4 Viborg-Hurley in its home finale 54-53 Thursday night. After trailing 38-26 at halftime, the Tigers outscored the Cougars 28-15 in the second half to get the win. Luke Koepsell (18 points) and Kolt Koepsell (15) paced Howard's offense, while Colby Claussen added eight points. In the loss, Nick Hanson led V-H with 19 points.
