From the Archives: November 9 in the Pioneer
Nov. 9—November 9, 2012 — Sanford Bemidji Medical Center saw some unique patients as a part of its first Teddy Bear Hospital. Students from Kelliher Elementary School brought in their stuffed animals, each of which were treated for conditions like a broken leg, to the medical center to learn more about surgery and doctors.
November 9, 1997 — A Bemidji artist has recently returned from a journey to Russia, where he spent a week studying and painting Siberian Tigers. Scott Fadness now plans to host public talks throughout the area both on his trip and the importance of protecting the tigers and their habitat.
November 9, 1972 — Bemidji followed the national trend on Tuesday and voted for the reelection of President Richard Nixon, albeit just by a narrow margin. The Nixon-Agnew ticket received 2,417 votes within the city, compared to the 2,163 votes cast for the McGovern-Shriver ticket.
November 9, 1922 — Preparations for Armistice Day are well underway in Bemidji, with plans for a parade, speakers and a dance to captivate the community's attention. Businesses are urging citizens to complete their weekend shopping on Friday so that they can remain closed on the holiday itself.
