Archie Colgan happy to show off hands, but doesn’t want to get away from wrestling at Bellator 288

Archie Colgan happy to show off hands, but doesn’t want to get away from wrestling at Bellator 288

CHICAGO – Archie Colgan is showing improved striking, but still plans on sticking to his bread and butter.

Colgan (5-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA), who comes from a wrestling background, mostly displayed his striking in his last outing when he knocked out Bryan Nuro at Bellator 283 in July.

But that doesn’t mean Colgan has forgotten his roots. The training partner of the likes of former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and Justin Gaethje doesn’t plan on straying away from his wrestling when he faces Jesse Hannam (2-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) in Friday’s Bellator 288 event.

“I might, we’ll see how I’m feeling,” Colgan told reporters at Wednesday’s media day. “I might throw a little takedown in there, just because you asked (laughs). No, I mean ultimately outside of that last fight, I don’t want to get away from wrestling. I don’t want to run from that.

“I love wrestling, it’s the best skillet. So I definitely want to wrestle, but we’ll see how the exchanges start because every round starts on the feet. We’ll see how those exchanges end and if he can take what I dish out, eventually we will go to the ground yeah.”

Bellator 288 takes place Friday at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The main card airs on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.
