Archbishop Wood rolls to another District 12 baseball playoff championship

PCL 1 Archbishop Wood 22, Public League 1 Nueva Esperanza 0 (4 innings)

Host Wood dominated at La Salle College High, scoring four runs in the first inning, followed by two, seven and nine in the fourth, to secure a fourth consecutive District 12 title and their eighth in the last nine seasons. The Philadelphia Catholic League top-seeded Vikings, led by senior Dariel Tiburcio (4-for-4, double, two RBIs) collected 22 hits. Senior captains Joey Gale and Sean Burke each went 3-for-4, with seniors Brian Klumpp (three RBIs), JP DiGuiseppe, Logan Pietrzak and Jared Uzdzienski adding two hits apiece against Public League No. 1 seed Nueva Esperanza.

Four pitchers each threw an inning for Wood, which opens the PIAA state playoffs Monday at home (4) against District One champion Pope John Paul II. The Vikings reached the state semifinals in 5A a year ago.
