Anthony Johnson vs. Rogerio Nogueira is First Bout Set for UFC on FOX 12

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson recently made his return to the Octagon, and he’s not slowing down. Johnson already has his next fight booked.

UFC officials on Thursday announced that Johnson would make his next start against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC on FOX 12 on July 26 in San Jose, Calif.

Johnson (17-4) was cut loose from the UFC in early 2012 after having issues making weight on several occasions. Following his expulsion, Johnson put together a six-fight winning streak, knocking out four of his six opponents.

Following his success, coupled with Johnson having given up on lower weight classes and making a move to light heavyweight, the UFC decided to give him another chance.

Johnson returned to the promotion at UFC 172, where he dominated Phil Davis en route to a three-round unanimous-decision victory, increasing his winning streak to seven bouts.

He didn’t hesitate in lining up his next trip to the Octagon, and will face Nogueira in July.

For Nogueira (21-5), the fight also represents his return to the Octagon. He hasn’t been fighting elsewhere; he just hasn’t been fight.

Following back-to-back victories over Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans, Nogueira has spent the past year and a half dealing with lingering back issues. He had been on the cusp of putting his name into title contention, but his back troubles nixed a bout with Alexander Gustafsson. He will be looking for a return to form when he faces Johnson.

Johnson vs. Nogueira is the first bout confirmed for the UFC on FOX 12 fight card.
