Another Ionescu triple-double leads Oregon past Indiana

Sabrina Ionescu had a triple-double with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists to lead second-seeded Oregon to a 91-68 victory against 10th-seeded Indiana on Sunday night in the second round of the Women's NCAA Tournament in Eugene, Ore. The Ducks (31-4) advanced to the Sweet 16 for the third straight season. They'll play the winner of Monday's game between South Dakota State and Syracuse in the semifinals of the Portland Region on Saturday. Ionescu, one of four finalists for the Naismith Trophy for women's national player of the year, matched her own school record for points in an NCAA Tournament game and broke her own mark in assists, which she set with 11 last year. The triple-double was the 18th of her career, the most in NCAA history. Teammate Satou Sabally added 19 points and eight rebounds and Erin Boley scored 14. Ali Patberg led Indiana (21-13) with 16 points and five assists. Jaelynn Penn added 15 points and six rebounds, with Grace Berger and Bendu Yeaney scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Hoosiers, who upset seventh-seeded Texas 69-65 in the first round. The Ducks led by as many as eight points in the first quarter before the Hoosiers began a 12-0 run at the end of the first period, capped by Penn's 3-pointer to give Indiana a 28-24 lead with 8:14 remaining before the half. Oregon responded with a 14-0 run of its own. Ionescu sparked the rally with a four-point play, tying the score at 28-28. Her 3-pointer the next trip down the court gave the Ducks the lead for good. Ionescu also made a 3-pointer with 31 seconds left in the half to give the Ducks a 43-31 advantage at the intermission. The Ducks stretched the lead to 68-53 after three quarters and led by as many as 23 points in the fourth. Oregon shot 51.5 percent from the field (34 of 66) and made 13 3-pointers, including five by Ionescu. The Ducks also had a 41-27 rebounding edge. --Field Level Media
