Ann Curry still doesn’t fully understand why she was ousted from her seat next to Matt Lauer on the "Today" show eight years ago, but she’s proud of her own behavior amid the messy situation.
What you may not have noticed is that the Raptors' unique defense is consistently exploiting a blind spot of NBA officiating: the defensive three-second violation. As NBC Sports' Tom Haberstroh laid out in his latest column, defensive three seconds is one of the most overlooked calls in the NBA -- especially at the end of games. According to The Pudding's examination of the league's Last Two Minute reports, there were 141 defensive three-second violations in the last two minutes of close games between 2015 and 2018, and only one was called.
The Broncos are scrambling for a replacement for Von Miller, and at least one of their options has told them “No, thanks.” According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, former Rams and Packers linebacker Clay Matthews sent word to the Broncos he was not going to play. There was a report of interest from the Seahawks in early August, otherwise things have been quiet in terms of Matthews actually playing again.
“Hopefully, we can build a culture in Milwaukee for many years that we can come out here and compete every single year for a championship.” The Bucks will offer Antetokounmpo a supermax contract this offseason, and if he doesn't sign it then things get interesting. Whether he signs the extension or not, Milwaukee has work to do to make this work (and maybe keep him).
LeBron James admits his determination to remain at the peak of his powers at 35 is even annoying his wife in the NBA's Orlando bubble. The Los Angeles Lakers' 112-102 Game 3 win over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday was the 162nd postseason victory James has been a part of, a number that takes him past Derek Fisher for the most playoff wins in NBA history. James was paramount to a victory that put the Lakers 2-1 up in the series as he had 36 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and had four blocks in one quarter.
Top Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton injured his right shoulder at practice Thursday. Sutton landed awkwardly after catching a high pass and was being looked at by trainers as the open media period ended. There was no immediate word about the nature or severity of Sutton's injury, which occurred 48 hours after the Broncos lost their best player, linebacker Von Miller, to a serious ankle tendon injury at an indoor practice Tuesday.
Call it one last pass in San Diego for Philip Rivers. The longtime Chargers quarterback, who joined the Indianapolis Colts this offseason after 16 years with the Bolts, has sold his home in gated Santaluz for $3.675 million. Originally listed in April for $4.199 million, the Spanish-style home's price was cut to $3.699 million in June before catching an offer six weeks later.
Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers (at Minnesota Vikings) 13) Chris Carson, Seattle Seahawks (at Atlanta Falcons) 14) Miles Sanders, Philadelphia Eagles (at Washington Football Team) 15) Kenyan Drake, Arizona Cardinals (at San Francisco 49ers) 16) Mark Ingram, Baltimore Ravens (vs. Cleveland Browns) As the 2020 NFL season progresses, I expect the Ravens to rely increasingly more on rookie RB J.K. Dobbins to spell the 30-yer-old Ingram. To start the season, however, I see Ingram receiving the majority of work in this backfield.
Talib reveals why he turned down Belichick's offer to rejoin Patriots originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston Aqib Talib has officially retired from the NFL, even though the New England Patriots were interested in bringing him back to Foxboro for the 2020 NFL season. Talib was acquired by the Patriots in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 2012 season, and he played in New England through the 2013 campaign before signing with the Denver Broncos in free agency. The veteran cornerback played with the Los Angeles Rams over the last two seasons, and on Wednesday he announced his retirement.
Unfortunately, it's against a Steelers Defense that allowed by far the fewest quarterback fantasy points in 2019. That was due in large part to teams not having to pass against a noncompetitive Steelers Offense, but that elite D did not get worse over the offseason. Jimmy Garoppolo was the QB22 by average points last season.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was listed on the first Dolphins injury report of the year as fully participating in practice despite a hip injury. Presumably, it's the same hip injury that he suffered last season at Alabama. Limited in practice for the Dolphins on Wednesday were tight end Mike Gesicki (glute), cornerback Xavien Howard (knee), cornerback Byron Jones (achilles), receiver DeVante Parker (hamstring), linebacker Kyle Van Noy (hand), and receiver Preston Williams (knee).
It's never been a particular career goal of Serena Williams to be alongside Molla Bjorsted Mallory in the U.S. Open record book, but after 20 years and 106 victories she is on the cusp of doing just that. If Williams — soon to be 39 — can keep her current form and manage her nerves and win two more matches in Flushing Meadows, she will be right behind Mallory as the second oldest singles champion, male or female, in the 140-year history of the U.S. championships. One day after dispatching Tsvetana Pironkova, mother of Alexander, in the quarters, Williams will be across the net from the resurgent Victoria Azarenka, mother of Leo.

When the NFL schedule was released in May, we highlighted the top 10 must-watch games. Tom Brady will be playing his first game for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the first time he will have suited up for anyone but the New England Patriots since he was at the University of Michigan. Brady's Buccaneers will be facing the New Orleans Saints, who have Super Bowl dreams after three straight playoff heartbreaks.
Why would the Texans take on the albatross contract of David Johnson, a player seemingly on a downward spiral at this point in his career? The Texans quickly flipped their own second-round selection, 57th overall, to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for the often-traded Brandin Cooks. Cooks, the recipient of four 1,000-yard seasons from 2015-2018, was lauded as a similarly priced downgrade to Hopkins.
All of the listed players are rostered in under 60 percent of Yahoo leagues (at time of writing) and/or are a significant value in our daily fantasy game. The stink of being bumped by Baker during his tenure with the Browns continues to follow Taylor around like Eeyore's rain cloud. Taylor found fantasy relevance from 2015-2017 as the Bills starting QB, never finishing outside of the top 19 players at the position (QB16 in 2015, QB13 in 2016, QB19 in 2017).
Scottie Pippen's 11-season run with the Chicago Bulls in the late '80s and '90s, during which time the team racked up six NBA championships, may be long behind him, but this summer, fans could relive his glory days by watching the ESPN documentary The Last Dance. In the backyard, Pippen shows off his pool (complete with a water slide), his grill, the outdoor television which ensures he never misses a basketball game, and even a putting green, where he practices chipping. Of course, cold Chicago winters mean indoor activities are a must, and Pippen's house features an amenity-laden basement complete with a wine cellar, movie theater (his favorite flick is Die Hard), a small gym area, a sauna, an air hockey table and vintage Mrs. Pac-Man game, and to top it all off, an indoor basketball court.
The Chicago Bears went into the 2020 offseason searching for a quarterback to push – or replace – starter Mitchell Trubisky after the former second overall pick struggled in his third season in the NFL. While they ultimately settled on trading for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles, they nearly found a future Hall of Fame player to take the job outright. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, who signed with the team this offseason after a legendary career in New England, reportedly was close to signing with the Bears this spring, according to sports talk host Dan Patrick.

The Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. and basketball community gathered on Wednesday morning to remember legendary Georgetown basketball coach John Thompson Jr. at St. Augustine Church in Northwest D.C. with some of the biggest names in the sport flocking to the city to pay their respects. A number of Hoya all-stars were seen in the city Wednesday morning for Thompson's funeral, arriving at the church to honor the Hall-of-Fame coach who passed away at the end of August at the age of 78. Allen Iverson and Patrick Ewing, two former players under Thompson who were especially close to him, were the first spotted at the church.
As the Chicago Bears prepare to open the regular season, there are a number of questions ahead of the Week 1 match-up against the Detroit Lions. There have been concerns about running back David Montgomery's status for the season opener, which teammate Tarik Cohen said was made a bigger deal than it actually was. The Bears have preached all offseason that they weren't worried about Quinn's status for the regular season.
