Andrew Whitworth sees no reason to stop playing, would love to stay with Rams
The Los Angeles Rams faced the possibility of losing Andrew Whitworth to retirement last offseason after his contract expired. But they wouldn’t let their veteran left tackle get away, re-signing him to a three-year contract through 2022.
Whitworth, 39, is always a candidate to retire after each season. But despite his age getting up there, he doesn’t seem to be ready to call it quits. After Saturday’s loss to the Packers, Whitworth sure made it sound like he’ll be back next season.
He said he doesn’t see any reason not to continue playing and would love to be back with the Rams in 2021.
Rams LT Andrew Whitworth says he doesn't see reasons he should stop playing, even though he was looking for them. He will talk to his family about it, "but I would love to go back out there and compete with this football team again."

Whitworth will talk to his family, as expected, but the Rams can probably expect him to be back at left tackle if they want him to reclaim his place along the offensive line. That’s great news because as well as Joe Noteboom played while Whitworth was injured, it’s hard to replace a former All-Pro at left tackle.
And with a guy like Cam Akers on the team, Whitworth can’t help but feel excited about the future for the Rams at running back. Hopefully he’ll be the one blocking for No. 23 at left tackle next season because he already has a ton of respect and praise for the first-year back.
Andrew Whitworth on Cam Akers: "I think he's one to get excited about moving forward. … I imagine Cam Akers is going to be a leader of this football team quickly."
