What seemed like a forgone conclusion when word first surfaced on Monday, has become a reality: Colts star quarterback Andrew Luck will miss the Thanksgiving night game against the Steelers after failing to clear concussion protocol.

Luck suffered a concussion late in Indianapolis’ 21-17 victory over the Titans on Sunday and was a long-shot to play this week, even before his inactive status became official on Wednesday.

Scott Tolzien, a career backup, will get the start for the Colts, who are 5-5 and trailing the Texans by a game in the AFC South standings.

Tolzien previously saw time with both the 49ers and Packers and has a total of 721 passing yards in his career.

After losing four-straight games and falling behind the Ravens in the AFC North, this is the kind of break the Steelers sorely needed after finally ending their slide in Cleveland this past Sunday. Of course, getting the break is one thing; capitalizing is another matter.

However, while there’s always the possibility of Pittsburgh going into Lucas Oil Stadium with a false sense of security, the likelihood of this manifesting itself in a loss seems remote, given Tolzien’s lack of experience.

In-fact, the Steelers have gone from two and a half to nine point favorites for Thursday’s game and will now clearly have the upper-hand at quarterback with Ben Roethlisberger starting his third-straight game since suffering a torn meniscus against the Dolphins on October 16 and missing the epic battle against the Patriots at Heinz Field one week later (New England opened as slight favorites before Roethlisberger’s injury, but the line moved to 10 after it was revealed that Landry Jones would make his third career start).

If the Steelers can win Thursday night, they would improve to 6-5 and take a temporary half-game lead over the Ravens.
