American Christian Academy, Hillcrest baseball teams clinch spots in state finals

It is nearly time for the AHSAA high school baseball state championships.

Out of the 14 Tuscaloosa area teams that made it to the playoffs in their respective classification, only two have advanced to the state tournament: American Christian Academy and Hillcrest. The state championship will be held May 13-18 in Jacksonville and Oxford.

Here is a round-up of how Tuscaloosa area teams fared in the semifinals, and which ones got state championship bids:

American Christian Academy sweeps Bibb County

Game 1: ACA 2-1

Game 2: ACA 4-0

Next up: State championship vs. Corner

Hillcrest takes down Spanish Fort in three

Game 1: Hillcrest 6-0

Game 2: Spanish Fort 4-2

Game 3: Hillcrest 9-2

Next up: State championship vs. Hartselle
