Amarillo Sod Poodles are going to the playoffs. Here's what you need to know

For the first time since 2019, the Amarillo Sod Poodles are going to the postseason. Let's breakdown how they got here and what it all means.

How'd it happen?

They clinched a spot by earning the best second-half record in the Texas League South Division. They finished 43-26 in the second half of the year and finished 77-61 overall.

Who led the way?

While stars such as Jordan Lawlar and Ryan Bliss have since moved on, a few folks who helped in the early going are still around for the playoff run. A few more joined late and are still around. A.J. Vukovich (24 home runs, 96 RBI), Tim Tawa (22 HR, 75 RBI) and Deyvison De Los Santos (20 HR, 61 RBI) have been year-long studs while Ivan Melendez (.275 BA, 12 HR, 33 RBI in 38 games) has helped propel the Soddies in the second half. Luke Albright (136 strikeouts) and Jamison Hill (104 K) have been the workhorses on the mound.

What's the opening matchup?

The Soddies will take on the San Antonio Missions in the opening round. The Mission were the first half division champs.

When will the two teams meet?

The first game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 for game one of a best-of-three series. Game two will be played 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21 with game three being played Friday, Sept. 22, if needed.

Where will the series be held?

Game one will be played at Hodgetown in downtown Amarillo. Games two and three will take place in San Antonio.
