Alonzo Highsmith leaves Miami Hurricanes, returns to NFL with New England Patriots
University of Miami legend Alonzo Highsmith is leaving as the program’s general manager of football operations to take a job in the personnel department of the New England Patriots, according to a source.
Highsmith, a star fullback on the team’s first national title in 1983, returned to Coral Gables two years ago to take a role with newly hired coach Mario Cristobal.
“I came back to help this program get back to where it’s supposed to be,” Highsmith said last June.
Highsmith, 58, was involved with scouting talent and administrative work inside the Hurricanes football program.
