Alex Tracy, Minnesota State pulls away in 3rd period over Bemidji State

Nov. 17—MANKATO — Alex Tracy stole the show on Friday night.

The Mavericks' sophomore goalie stood tall in a game where the Bemidji State men's hockey team outshot Minnesota State 32-15. He backstopped MSU to a 5-1 win over the Beavers to take the first game of the weekend series in Mankato.

Sam Morton scored the game's first goal midway through the first period to give Minnesota State a 1-0 lead. Josh Groll doubled the advantage in the second period with his first career goal.

Eric Pohlkamp's individual effort got Bemidji State on the board in the third period. He beat a defender and got a shot off to cut the lead in half after forcing a turnover in the defensive zone.

Kaden Bohlsen regained the two-goal lead for the Mavericks shortly before Brenden Olson made it 4-1 with 10:07 left in regulation. Evan Murr scored an empty-net goal on the power play to put the contest out of reach.

Tracy made 31 saves in goal for MSU to push the Mavericks to 5-3-1 (3-0-0 CCHA) this season. Bemidji State dropped to 4-7-0, with a 3-4-0 mark in league play.
