Alabama women's basketball falls to Texas in the round of 32

No. 8 Alabama women's basketball's season came to a conclusion on Sunday, after losing to No. 1 Texas, 65-54, in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

The Crimson Tide was able to be competitive a majority of the game but the talent of Texas was ultimately too much for Alabama to overcome, and Jessica Timmons' absence was truly shown as the Crimson Tide was unable to have a consistent offensive game.

Here are three takeaways from Alabama's loss against Texas:

Texas dominates the glass in the first half

The Longhorns were living on the offensive boards in the first half, out-rebounding Alabama 20-15 with nine offensive rebounds, getting a majority of their baskets off second-chance points.

The Crimson Tide played good defense on the first shot, but were not able to get stops when Texas got an offensive rebound.

Fouls costing Alabama

The Crimson Tide had 10 fouls resulting in 12 free throw attempts for the Longhorns in the first half, compared to just two free throws for Alabama.

It was the second game in a row where an Alabama player was in foul trouble, with Sarah Ashlee Barker fouling out against Florida State and now Essence Cody spending a majority of the first half on the bench with two fouls at halftime.

Alabama's offense struggles

In every loss that Alabama has sustained this season, it had trouble scoring the ball, and that was the same reality against Texas.

The Crimson Tide scored just 54 points on 33% shooting from the field, while also never being able to take a lead the entirety of the game.

Alabama averaged 73.7 points per contest this season and did not come close to that number on Sunday.
