Alabama softball ace Montana Fouts injured, leaves game versus Arkansas in SEC Tournament

Alabama softball ace pitcher Montana Fouts left an SEC Tournament quarterfinal matchup with Arkansas on Thursday night with what appeared to be a left foot injury.

Fouts looked to injure it after recording her ninth strikeout of the game in the seventh inning. She attempted to throw a couple of warmup pitches but was unable to go and left the game. She limped after the warmup pitches.

Alex Salter replaced Fouts with the game tied 1-1 with two outs in the seventh and pitched out of a bases-loaded jam to force extra innings. Alabama would go on to win 3-2 in nine innings thanks to a two-run double by Bailey Dowling.

Fouts watched from the dugout after leaving the game. The extent of her injury and her status for the upcoming NCAA Tournament is not known.

Fouts has gone 23-9 this season with an ERA of 1.46. She leads NCAA Division I with 302 strikeouts while allowing 52 runs and 120 hits. Before the injury, she allowed four hits and three walks in 6⅔ innings.

Alabama face the winner of Tennessee-Florida, 35 minutes after the first semifinal on ESPN2 (scheduled for a 3 p.m. CT start) on Friday. Tennessee and Florida will play at 10 a.m. CT Friday.
