Alabama sending Metchie, Mathis to SEC Media Days
The football offseason can often seem long and never-ending, but once the month of July hits, it reminds us all that the football season is just around the corner.
It’s an annual tradition in the month of July for all the SEC teams to travel to Birmingham, Ala. — or something similar — to partake in SEC Media Days. Part of that tradition includes those couple of players from each program who travel with their head coach to meet with the media members. Accompanying Nick Saban this year is junior wide receiver John Metchie III and redshirt senior defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis.
Below is a complete list of players attending the 2021 SEC Football Media Days:
Metchie is coming off a career season for the tide finishing his sophomore campaign with 55 receptions for 916 yards and totaling 6 touchdowns. With DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle moving on to the NFL, Metchie looks to take hold of the No. 1 receiver position this fall.
Mathis has been a staple among the defensive lineman for the last couple of seasons and will be relied upon to make an impact for a defense that should be amongst the top in the SEC.
