Alabama high school football: Tuscaloosa area top 10 rankings heading into Week 9

The Alabama high school football season continues, with Week 9 action. Here are where the top-10 Tuscaloosa area teams stack up heading into games this week.

1. Hillcrest (9-0, 6-0 6A-Region 4): Hillcrest secured its second-straight 6A-Region 4 championship on Friday following its 60-13 win over Paul Bryant. The Patriots close out their regular season this week, and a win this Friday would mark their second-straight undefeated regular season. Last week: Ranked No. 1. This week: vs McAdory.

2. Bibb County (8-1, 6-0 4A-Region 3): The Choctaws won the 4A-Region 3 championship last week after their 55-8 win over Dallas County. It was the most points the Bibb County offense has put up all season behind three touchdowns from Jordan Leverette. Last week: Ranked No. 2. This week: vs Holt.

3. Gordo (8-1, 6-0 3A-Region 5): Gordo defeated Oakman 35-10 last week to secure its second-straight 3A-Region 5 championship. The Green Wave have the week off, before closing out their regular season next week, hosting Hale County. Last week: Ranked No. 3. This week: idle week.

4. American Christian Academy (7-2, 5-1 4A-Region 3): American Christian Academy is coming off a 51-29 victory over Sipsey Valley, with quarterback Kai Young accounting for three of the team's touchdowns. The Patriots close out their regular season this week at Montevallo, and a win would secure them the No. 2 spot in region play heading into the playoffs. Last week: Ranked No. 4. This week: at Montevallo.

5. Demopolis (6-2, 5-0 5A-Region 3): Demopolis concluded 5A-Region 3 play and secured its fourth-straight region championship with a 32-2 win over Holtville last week. Antonio Cox led the Tigers' offense, accounting for two of the team's touchdowns. Last week: Ranked No. 6. This week: at Greenville.

6. Tuscaloosa County (4-4, 2-4 7A-Region 3): Tuscaloosa County is coming off a tough 39-0 loss, but it was to the Class 7A No. 2 team, Thompson. It was the first time this season the Wildcats offense has been shutout. Last week: Ranked No. 5. This week: vs Vestavia Hills.

7. Tuscaloosa Academy (6-2, 4-1 2A-Region 5): Tuscaloosa Academy is coming off a huge 21-14 win over undefeated Sulligent. The Knights have secured their third-straight playoff berth with two regular season games remaining. Last week: ranked No. 10. This week: vs Cold Springs.

8. Sulligent (8-1, 5-1 2A-Region 5): The Blue Devils enter their open week coming off their first loss of the season last week, falling 21-14 at Tuscaloosa Academy. Despite the loss, Sulligent has already clinched a spot in the Class 2A playoffs under first-year coach Brian Gunnels. Last week: ranked No. 7. This week: idle week.

9. Central-Tuscaloosa (5-4, 3-3 6A-Region 4): The Falcons are coming off a tough road loss, falling 28-21 at Bessemer City in a game they needed to win to secure their Class 6A playoff berth. Central closes out its regular season this week, hosting Hueytown, as it sits in the No. 5 spot in 6A-Region 4. Last week: ranked No. 8. This week: vs Hueytown.

10. Lamar County (6-2, 3-2 2A-Region 5): The Bulldogs come out of their idle week, hosting Winston County for their 2A-Region 5 finale. Currently, Lamar County sits in the No. 4 spot in region standings. A win on Friday should lock down a playoff spot for the Bulldogs. Last week: ranked No. 9. This week: vs Winston County.
