Alabama high school football All-star games: Who made the rosters from the Gadsden area
The All-Star rosters were released last week and plenty of Gadsden area standouts will represent their teams and state in the game.
The first contest, which is the North-South Alabama all-star game, is on Dec. 15 in Mobile. The second is the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game the next day in Mississippi. Gadsden City leads the way with four players and a coach, while Fort Payne and Cherokee County each sent one player to all-star games.
Alabama North/South All-Star game selections
Bennett Blanks
Fort Payne, DE/LB
Blanks has been a star for the Fort Payne defense this season, totaling 43 solo tackles as part of 73 total, including three for loss. He has broken up four passes and scored five touchdowns on offense.
Jerrell Brasher
Gadsden City, DL
Brasher has been a leader on the Titans defense, with 50 tackles including 12 for a loss and seven sacks. He has forced a fumble.
Zack Gaylor
Cherokee County, OL
Gaylor helped lead Cherokee County to the Class 4A state finals last season and has been a catalyst for an offense that has led Jacob Cornejo and others to an explosive rushing offense this season.
Gabe Brito
Gadsden City, punter/kicker
Brito, at 5-foot-9, 216-pound, handles both kicking and punting duties for the Titans.
Luke Waldrop
Gadsden City, QB
Waldrop won the starting job during fall camp and has shined through the first seven games of the year. He has gone 72 of 128 for 1,274 yards and 13 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Ali Smith
Gadsden City, coach
Smith is in fifth season coaching the Titans, taking over in 2019. He has gone 21-29, but has helped the Titans improve each season. The Titans have earned back-to-back Class 6A, Region 8 titles.
Alabama-Mississippi All-star game selections
Dre Kirkpatrick Jr.
Gadsden City, DB
The Alabama commit is coming off his best game of the season with 220 total yards and three touchdowns, one in each facet of his game. On the year, he has 33 tackles and four interceptions, with five pass breakups.
