Alabama boys high school track: 42 Tuscaloosa area athletes to watch for outdoor season
High school outdoor track season is underway this week across Alabama, and Tuscaloosa is home to plenty of talented athletes. Here are 42 boys track and field athletes to watch this outdoor season:
Makell Dumpson
Fayette County, Freshman
Look for Dumpson to star in the 110-meter hurdles for Fayette County this season.
Clark Vandiver
Fayette County, Junior
Vandiver placed third in the high jump and was part of the Tigers' state championship-winning 800-meter relay team.
Orlando Lawson
Fayette County, Junior
Lawson placed second in the long jump at the indoor state championships and was also a member of the Tigers' 800-meter relay group with Vandiver.

Charles Grant
Fayette County, Senior
Grant won the triple jump at the state outdoor championships last season. He is looking to make a strong return from an injury suffered during football season.
Hester Whittaker and Riley Vick
Fayette County
Whittaker and Vick round out the Tigers' indoor state championship-winning 800-meter relay team. Lawson, Whittaker, Vick and Vandiver claimed the title with a time of 1:36.31.
Logan Rogers
Northside, Junior
Rogers' personal best times are 4:57 in the 1600-meter and 10:43 in the 3,200-meter.
Henry Livingston
Northside, Junior
Livingston runs a 5-minute 1,600-meter and 10:42 in the 3,200-meter. He also finished in 11th place at the Class 4A state cross-country meet with a time of 17:07.28 in 2023.
Fisher Roberts
Northside, Junior
Roberts excels in the 400-meter with a 52.2-second personal best.
Kale Key, Evan Young, J.J. Case
Northside
These three, along with Roberts, make up Northside's 1,600-meter relay team
Wyatt Bailey
Sipsey Valley, Senior
Bailey holds every school record at Sipsey Valley and qualified for state in the 400-meter dash and 300-meter hurdles. He placed third in the 300-meter hurdles.
Braden Ary
American Christian Academy, Senior
Ary was named the 2023 Tuscaloosa News Boys Cross Country Athlete of the Year and won the Class 5A indoor state championship in the 800-meter with a time of 1:58.24.
Carson Renicks
American Christian Academy, Senior
Renicks was an all-state performer in the 3200-meter in 2023. He finished fifth at state championships with a time of 9:47.54.
Stephen Billman
American Christian Academy, Senior
Billman was an all-state performer in cross-country the last two seasons and will look to perform well in the 3,200-meter this outdoor season.
Anglin Young
Northridge, Junior
Young took home the 6A indoor state title in the 3,200-meter with a time of 9:37.79. As a sophomore, Young placed fifth in the 6A state cross-country meet with a time of 15:54.09.
Khiyon Lewis and Kilan Little
Northridge
Lewis won the 6A indoor state title in the triple jump (45-08.5) while Little finished in second (45-04.5).
Shawn Stephenson
Northridge, Sophomore
Stephenson placed third in the 3,200-meter at the 6A indoor state championships, finishing in 9:43.62.
D.J. Jordan
Holt, Sophomore
Jordan made it to the state semifinals on the 60-meter hurdles and finished the season ranked 13th in 4A-5A.
Dayton Cowan
Holt, Freshman
Cowan finished his freshman indoor season ranked No. 18 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Charles Neal and Rowan Wilcox
South Lamar
Neal was a state qualifier in the 100-meter, while Wilcox qualified in the 200- and 400-meter.
Dyllon Williams
Demopolis, Junior
Williams has multiple offers to play college football, including SEC offers from Kentucky and Missouri. Look for his speed to translate to the track this year.
Mason James
Demopolis, Senior
James has qualified for state the last two years and will look to do so for a third time in his final season.
Jackson Norris
Holy Spirit Catholic, Senior
Norris has impressed on the discus throw with a career-best 99-foot, 9-inch toss. He also excels at the shot put, posting a career-high throw of 33 feet, 5 inches.
Griffin Gordy
Holy Spirit Catholic, Freshman
Gordy has displayed potential in both discus and shot put. His career-best marks there include an 89-foot, 2-inch discus throw and a 29-foot shot put.
Joseph Jones
Holy Spirit Catholic, Junior
Jones' career-best times include an 11.5-second 100-meter dash and a 23.52-second 200-meter dash.
Jacorey Stevens
Holy Spirit Catholic, Junior
Stevens' best event is the 100-meter dash, where he has posted a career-best time of 11.5 seconds.
A.J. Lodree
Holy Spirit Catholic, Freshman
Lodree's best times include a 1-minute 400-meter and a 2:26 in the 800-meter.
Nigel Senkbeil
Holy Spirit Catholic, Freshman
Senkbeil is a talented distance runner, as he will participate in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter this season. His career-best times in those events are 2:25, 5:06 and 10:50, respectively.
Nate Givens
Holy Spirit Catholic, Sophomore
Givens career-best times include a 5:14 in the 1,600-meter and an 11:48 in the 3,200-meter.
Xander Bradford
Lamar County, Senior
Bradford has qualified for state in the triple jump three years in a row and also qualified in the high jump in 2023. His personal records include 39 feet, 3 inches on the triple jump, 18 feet, 2 inches on the long jump, 5 feet, 6 inches on the high jump, and 45.53 seconds on the 300-meter hurdles.
William Peterson
Central, Junior
Peterson finished 12th at the 6A cross-country state championship meet. He has broken all of Central's school indoor records in his events and will look to do the same in the outdoor season. Peterson is a top contender in the state in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meters.
Christian Bishop
Central, Junior
Bishop is a newly-found jumper who impressed as a first-time jumper in the indoor season.
Jaelon Bramlett
Central, Freshman
Bramlett finished 10th in the long jump at the 6A indoor state championships with a mark of 20 feet, 3 inches. He has also cleared 5 feet, 8 inches in the high jump and will pick up the triple jump this outdoor season.
Ian Maddox
Central, Junior
Maddox has established himself as a solid jumper with a 40-foot, 7-inch mark in the triple jump during the indoor season. He will also compete in the long jump and high jump this outdoor season.
Avery Peterson
Central, Junior
Peterson recorded a personal best shot put of 42 feet, 3 inches, as a sophomore. He will look to remain a top contender for the 6A shot put state title and will also pick up discus this season.
Cornelious Dates
Central, Junior
Dates will be a top contender in both the 200- and 400-meters.
Peyton Thomas and Langston Warthaw
Central
Thomas and Warthaw will both compete in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. Both recorded personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles this indoor season, with Thomas finishing in 9.25 seconds and Warthaw in 9.61 seconds.
