Adrian College baseball, softball compete in MIAA tournament

Adrian College baseball and softball both made the MIAA tournament this week.

Here's a look how the Bulldogs faired in the tournament:

BASEBALL

Adrian claimed a second-straight MIAA tournament title and automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament with an 8-3 win against Hope.

AJ Miranda capped a big week at the plate by going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run in the final. Rolando Jimenez went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs and Nic Bruder went 3-for-6 with an RBI and a run. Ed Wagner added a double.

Daniel Gutierrez got the win as he went 6.2 innings and gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits and two walks while striking out four. Onsted graduate Lincoln Lipinski tossed 2.1 shutout innings, giving up a hit and no walks while striking out two.

After a rainout on Thursday, the Bulldogs got back in play on Friday and punched their ticket into the MIAA championship by beating host Kalamazoo, 3-2.

Jaxon Clark had a strong outing, going 6.2 innings and giving up one run, on four hits and a walk while striking out four. Lipinski tossed two innings in relief before Luc St. Antoine recorded the final out for the save.

Ryan Davis hit a big two-run double to put Adrian up 3-0 while Miranda hit a double as well.

Jakob Charles got the Bulldogs started right at home Wednesday with a 7-4 win against Hope.

Charles went eight innings and gave up four runs on six hits with two walks while striking out three.

Miranda had three hits while Joe Casale had two with a double and Bruder had two with a triple and three RBIs.

SOFTBALL

The Bulldogs got washed out on Thursday before having the season come to an end on Friday in a 1-0 loss to top-seeded Trine before losing 5-2 to Hope.

Macee Schang took the loss to Trine, giving up the one unearned run, on two hits and no walks while striking out two.

Hailey DeChalk hit a double and drove in a run while Peyton Russell had two hits and an RBI in Game 2. Abbi Patton took the loss.

Prior to the tournament, Karson Bagelmann was named MIAA Player of the Year. The Bulldogs have won 28 games in back-to-back seasons after one 20-win season since 2015.
