ADM softball’s Hagedorn hits 4 HRs, baseball blasts Winterset

ADM fans were kept busy looking for balls over the fence this week with the Tigers powering their way through the latest batch of games. (Note: Games covered June 4-10)

Baseball (10-9)

After starting the season with a 5-9 record, the Tigers are winners of five straight games after a perfect run through three Raccoon River games this week, getting a variety of wins in their portfolio.

Providing one of the most obscure box scores, ADM booked an 18-1 win on June 5 in Winterset (5-6) where every run came in the third inning, leading to a run-ruled four inning outing. With the score piling up in droves led by six runs created by Reed Ausdemore’s two scores and four RBI, the Tigers were able to put in five pinch hitters to get some valuable varsity at-bats. Rhylan Stine-Smith, Grant Rychnovsky, Grant Jansen and Cade Fisher all scored twice as well.

Opposite to the blowout win, the Tigers squeaked by Carlisle (5-10) on Thursday where ADM held off four late runs by the Wildcats and pulled through for an 8-7 advantage.

Helping grant the win, Rychnovsky hit his second home run of the season, pushing Stine-Smith around the bags as well. Ausdemore booked the win in five innings pitched, getting seven Wildcats out on strikes.

Gilbert’s attempt at a comeback was less fruitful on Monday, ending with a 10-4 win for ADM over the rival Tigers (3-10). Following in Rychnovsky’s footsteps, Jansen became the team’s second player this season to hit a home run, highlighting his two-hit, four RBI performance while also picking up the W on the mound.

After checking in 10th in the June 5 Class 4A rankings, the Tigers had a 5-1 week after a strong showcase Friday and Saturday at the North Scott tournament. Taking on four teams receiving votes in the state polls, the Tigers walked out with a 3-1 record during their stay.

Up against 4A’s sixth-ranked North Scott, Lauren Hagedorn and Cameran Smith threw a combined no-hitter for a 2-0 victory. Hagedorn at the plate went 2-for-3 and drove in one run, with Cameran and Ellis Smith each scoring.

Against 2A honorable mention Louisa-Muscatine and 5A’s 14th-ranked Bettendorf, Hagedorn kept the spotlight with her second and third home runs of the season. That helped take down the former by a score of 7-2 and the latter 5-4. She would hit her fourth home run of the week on Monday in a 4-2 win over Gilbert (7-5). Her power streak began on June 5 where she hit a solo shot to help give a 2-1 edge over 4A’s eighth-ranked Winterset.

The only loss over the weekend was a 5-4 defeat at the hands of 5A’s 11th-ranked Dubuque Senior. Kennedy Stanford led the team with two hits including a double, driving in one run as well.
