ACM wins season opener

Nov. 2—LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. — The Allegany College of Maryland women's basketball team won its season opener 55-47 at Penn State-Fayette on Thursday.

"It's a great feeling to get this season started, with a win and on the road," Trojans head coach LaRae Allen said. "I am pretty proud of our ladies and love to see everyone get an opportunity."

The Trojans (1-0) finished with four scoring in double figures.

C'Niyah Turner recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Saniya Brown and Ziahya Lomax each scored 10 points. Brown added six rebounds and three assists and Lomax had nine boards and two steals.

Sophia Zalar led Fayette with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Allegany led 20-16 at halftime.

Neither team shot well. Allegany shot 30% from the field while Fayette shot 24%. Both teams shot under 20% from beyond the arc.

The Trojans controlled the glass with a 58-40 advantage in rebounds, but also had a 22-19 edge in turnovers.

Allegany returns to Bob Kirk Arena for the home opener on Friday at 5 p.m. against Niagara County. The game is part of the Personal Best Athletics Classic.
