88-year-old gold medalist Dick Button loved Nathan Chen's six-quad performance
United States figure skater Nathan Chen cleanly landed a record five quad jumps — and attempted six — in the men’s free skate on Saturday at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. The feat landed him the fifth highest free skate score in Olympic history.
The internet, naturally, exploded. Right along with them was 88-year-old Dick Button.
Button is a five time World Champion and winner of back-to-back gold medals in 1948 and 1952. Button was commenting along — via his Twitter account “@PushDicksButton” — with the rest of the figure skating world while watching Chen’s record performance.

While the 18-year-old’s final combined score of 297.35 likely won’t earn Chen a medal, Button was thrilled to see Chen complete a run after his early struggles in PyeongChang.
