8 Topeka-area golf programs were represented at state. Here's how they finished the year

The Kansas high school state golf tournaments concluded Tuesday around the state.

Teams began competing on Monday with the top six team scores and the top six individuals not on qualifying teams at the end of play on day one advancing to day two of the state tournament.

Here's how the Topeka-area golfers finished at state.

Washburn Rural

Washburn Rural placed ninth at state in Newton, finishing day one with a team score of 318 behind Blue Valley Northwest (287), Shawnee Mission East (291), Olathe West (292), Manhattan (297), Blue Valley West (297), Olathe Northwest (299), Olathe South (304) and Derby (312).

Scoring for Washburn Rural on Monday were junior Hayden Glynn (77), senior Bryan Tyrell (78), sophomore Tadd Armstrong (81) and senior Andrew Burdett (82).

Glynn and Tyrell were in the top six individuals not on a qualifying team. Glynn shot 85 on Tuesday and 162 overall, while Tyrell shot 74 and 152 overall.

Shawnee Heights

The Shawnee Heights boys finished 12th as a team at state, while senior Alex Valdivia tied for ninth as an individual.

The Shawnee Heights boys (334 strokes) placed 12th at state in McPherson.

Bishop Carroll (280), Kapaun Mt. Carmel (282), Eisenhower (284), Emporia (296), St. James Academy (301), St. Thomas Aquinas (308), Blue Valley Southwest (314), Hays (319), Hutchinson (321), Basehor Linwood (325) and Salina South (329) rounded on the field on day one.

Senior Alex Valdivia (73), senior Aiden Jones (86), senior Tanner Zerger (86) and junior Jensen Crawford (89) scored for Shawnee Heights on Monday with Valdivia making the cut as an individual for Tuesday.

Valdivia shot 70 on Tuesday, finishing three over par with a 143-stroke two-day total, and tied for ninth overall individually.

Seaman

Junior Zachary Weir finished his season shooting an 82 on day one of the state tournament.

Topeka West

Myles Alonzo represented Topeka West at the state golf tournament, qualifying for day two as an individual.

Junior Myles Alonzo (71) shot one over par on Monday, qualifying him for day two of the state tournament play.

Alonzo would shoot 72 on Tuesday to finish three over par at 143 strokes and tied for 12th overall as an individual.

Hayden

The Hayden boys (345 strokes) qualified for day two of the state tournament as a team, placing fifth behind Bishop Miege (313), Wamego (320), Independence (321), Towanda Circle (339) and ahead of Andale (347).

Hayden scorers from day one included sophomore Tagen Rodriguez (82), sophomore James Kuta (84), senior Garrett Borjon (89) and sophomore Nick Gorman (90).

Hayden (323) would finish the state tournament on Tuesday for a two day total of 668, a fifth-place finish behind Wamego (639), Independence (641), Bishop Miege (642) and Towanda Circle (644).

Rodriguez (84), Kuta (85), senior Noah Haverkamp (85) and Gorman (88) scored for Hayden on Tuesday.

Rodriguez (166) tied for 21st individually.

3A

Rossville

Rossville shot 337 as a team on Monday behind Heritage Christian (310), Sabetha (321), Hesston (323) and Frontenac (33) and ahead of Santa Fe Trail (341).

Sophomore Jonathan Hart (79), freshman Jack Donovan (80), senior Kyser Lundin (88) and freshman Paxton Willett (90) scored for Rossville on Monday.

Rossville (671) would place fifth at state behind Heritage Christian (613), Sabetha (635), Hesston (642) and Frontenac (666).

Scoring for Rossville on Tuesday were Hart (71), Donovan (77), Lundin (93) and Willett (93).

Hart (150) placed fifth as an individual at state and Donovan would tie for 12th.

Silver Lake

Junior Bryce Badsky shot eight over on Monday for a 79, qualifying him for day two.

Badsky would shoot a 78 on Tuesday and 157 overall. He would place tie for 12th in the state individually.

Cair Paravel

Cair Paravel boys golf competed at the state tournament as a team this year with junior Rich Helmhold and sophomore Jase Pavlik advancing to day two as individuals.

Cair Paravel (360 strokes) finished its season with a ninth-place finish on day one behind Sacred Heart (297), Hill City (315), Elkhart (329), Hoxie (331), Ellinwood (340), Thomas More Prep (358), Syracuse (359) and Berean Academy (360).

Junior Rich Helmhold (84), sophomore Jase Pavlik (87), freshman Caleb Cleverdon (91) and junior Simon Everhart (98) scored for Cair Paravel.

Helmhold and Pavlik qualified as individuals for Tuesday with Helmhold shooting 89 on Tuesday, 173 overall and 35th individually, and Pavlik shooting 84 on Tuesday, and 171 overall, which tied him for 31st individually.
