757Teamz boys basketball Top 15: Woodside remains at No. 1, plenty of movement elsewhere

Woodside, which didn’t play during the holiday break, remained at the top spot in boys basketball’s 757Teamz Top 15.

Lake Taylor moved up to No. 2 as the Titans stayed unbeaten with a 60-58 win over Cardozo, a District of Columbia team, to win the Dr. Wise Jr. Holiday Classic in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Triston Skipwith was named MVP of the tournament after he scored 13 points in the title game, including the game-winning basket. The Titans (8-0) also beat then-No. 8 Maury and then-No. 15 Booker T. Washington.

Oscar Smith stayed unbeaten as the Tigers (7-0) beat Wakefield 62-46 to win the George Long Holiday Tournament in Northern Virginia. Ulysses Young was named the tournament MVP.

Hampton has won six in a row after losing its season opener to Woodside. The Crabbers (6-1) beat Patriot of Northern Virginia 56-55 on Gavin Kay’s dunk with 3 seconds left to win their game in the Hampton High Holiday Invitational.

Norfolk Collegiate dropped four spots after the Oaks suffered three losses over the holiday break, including a double-overtime loss to Manchester in the championship game of the Highland Springs Holiday Tournament.

Western Branch suffered its first two losses of the season when the Bruins lost to Albemarle and West Potomac in the Daily Progress Holiday Hoops Classic in Charlottesville.

Western Branch’s Ellis Wright scored 32 points to lead the Bruins over Mills Godwin.

Hampton’s Malik Johnson had 25 points in a win over Patriot.

Churchland’s Sincere Jones had 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Truckers past Kecoughtan at the Hampton High Holiday Invitational.

Green Run’s K’Saan Farrar was named the game’s MVP after he had 24 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead the Stallions over LEAD Academy of Tennessee at the Gate City Classic in Greensboro, North Carolina.
