7 Eugene area softball teams to watch in OSAA state playoffs

The OSAA softball state playoffs kickoff this week with several Eugene area teams in the hunt for a state title.

3A and 2A/1A state title games will be played June 2 at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene, and the 6A, 5A and 4A state title games will be held June 3 at Jane Sanders Stadium.

Here are seven Eugene area teams to watch in the postseason.

Sheldon (6A)

The Sheldon Irish finished league play as Southwest Conference champions with a league record of 17-1 and an overall record of 25-1.

The No. 1 OSAA-ranked Irish will play No. 32 Central Catholic (9-14) in the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at Sheldon High School.

This season the Irish earned wins against No. 2 Oregon City, No. 5 Sherwood, swept No. 8 North Medford in three games, No. 12 McNary and No. 13 Jesuit. They also won two out of three games against No. 3 South Medford.

Marist Catholic (4A)

Marist finished league play third in the Sky Em League with a league record of 6-6 and an overall record of 13-11.

The No. 12 Spartans will play No. 5 La Grande (21-4) in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs on Tuesday at La Grande High School.

Thurston (5A)

The Thurston Colts finished league play third in the Midwestern League with a league record of 13-5 and an overall record of 15-10.

The No. 15 Colts will play No. 2 Bend (24-2) in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs on Tuesday at Bend Senior High School. Time is to be determined.

Pleasant Hill (3A)

The Pleasant Hill Billies finished league play as Mountain Valley Conference champions with a league record of 16-2 and an overall record of 20-5.

The No. 6 Billies will play No. 11 Glide (16-6) in the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs on Wednesday at Pleasant Hill High School. Time is to be determined.

Harrisburg (3A)

Also competing in the 3A state playoffs are the Harrisburg Eagles. The Eagles finished league play second in the MVC with a league record of 15-3 and an overall record of 19-6.

The No. 10 Eagles will play No. 7 Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa (17-5) in the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Enterprise High School.

Creswell (3A)

The Creswell Bulldogs softball team finished league play fourth in the MVC with a league record of 11-7 and an overall record of 14-10.

The No. 16 Bulldogs will play No. 17 Douglas (13-11) in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs at 5 p.m. on Monday at Creswell High School.

Lowell (2A/1A)

The Lowell Devils finished league play third in the Special District 4 with a league record of 17-3 and an overall record of 22-4.

No. 6 Lowell received a first-round bye and will face the winner between No. 11 Glendale and No. 22 Myrtle Point/Powers in the Class 2A/1A state playoffs on Wednesday.
