Texas' season is over, but that doesn't mean it wasn't fruitful. Among the Longhorns' breakout players, Dylan Campbell stands out as the best and one of the most promising.

Campbell started the season slow but went on an absolute tear in the second half, collecting highlight after highlight before it all came to an abrupt halt at Stanford in the NCAA super regionals. He finished with a .339 batting average, a .436 on-base percentage and a .603 slugging percentage.

Here are five things to know about the Texas star.

1. He was a high school Bo Jackson

Campbell is an athletic freak and nowhere is that more obvious than his time on the football field. As a high schooler at Strake Jesuit, he dominated as the starting running back, collecting 2,033 yards and 31 touchdowns his senior season.

He also made a name for himself on the diamond similar to how the legendary Bo Jackson did, as Perfect Game had Campbell ranked as the 12th-best shortstop prospect in the state. While it was feasible for him to play football, his talent translated better to baseball, which led to him signing with Texas.

2. A record hitting streak

On March 24, Campbell went hitless vs. Texas Tech, bringing his season average down to .229. One 38-game streak later, Campbell finally went hitless again, as his batting average had risen all the way to .340.

It was first the longest hitting streak in UT history before it became the longest streak in Big 12 history with his 36th hit vs. Louisiana in the Coral Gables regional. Though Campbell only hit 13 home runs the entire season, the streak showed his consistent ability to put the ball on the bat.

3. Plus defender

Campbell's offense is not the only thing that makes him so valuable to Texas. His defense is arguably just as important, with his speed allowing him to make some insane catches.

In addition, Campbell has a bazooka of an arm. With the game tied vs. Stanford, he made a throw to third all the way from right field, despite his momentum going the opposite direction.

Though Texas lost the final game of the season after Campbell failed to catch a pop up, that wasn't a result of poor defense. The ball simply got lost in the twilight sky, and there was nothing he or Eric Kennedy could do about it.

"It was just Mother Nature. Me and EK couldn’t see the ball of the bat." Campbell said. "That was just very fortunate on their end that it happened like that. We’ve just got to move forward, I guess. There’s nothing we can do about it now, it’s over.”

4. Family

A Houston product, Campbell only moved an hour away for college. An hour's drive doesn't seem like much, but it adds up if you're going to all the Texas baseball home games like his family did, including his dad, Donovan.

It means a lot to Dylan, who had his fair share of up and downs throughout the season. Through it all, he knew his family and his dad had his back.

"Seeing him in the stands at every single game ... I know that he's there for me no matter what. Good or bad," Campbell said.

5. Time to make the jump?

With the season that Campbell had, it wouldn't be surprising if he was drafted in the first three-five rounds of the upcoming draft, as MLB.com currently has him as the 168th overall prospect in the draft.

Whether or not he makes the leap is unknown. However, this year he proved himself as one of the best players in college baseball. Turning pro would seem like the next step, but we'll just have to wait and see.
