It hasn’t been the most eventful collegiate season at Hayward Field this spring.

Friday’s Oregon Twilight track and field meet marks just the second — and final — home meet of the season.

It’s also the last meet of the regular season for the Ducks, who next head to the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships in Walnut, Calif., May 12-14.

Many of Oregon’s most established and decorated athletes are not competing in Friday's meet, which begins at noon with the men's javelin and at 4:45 p.m. on the track with the B heat of the men's steeplechase.

Here are five intriguing events to watch at the meet. You can find the meet schedule and start lists here.

Women’s 200 and 400

Sophomore Shana Grebo, who is entered in both races, burst onto the scene last season when she ran 56.28 to break a 39-year-old school record in the 400 hurdles in her Oregon outdoor debut on March 26, 2022.

The last time Grebo competed at Hayward Field she was wearing a different uniform as she helped France finish fifth in the 4x400 relay during the World Athletics Championships last summer.

France’s Shana Grebo takes off on the second leg during the first round of the women’s 4x400 meter relay at the World Athletics Championships Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Women’s 1,500

This event could have some star power as Olympian Courtney Frerichs is entered.

The steeplechase silver medalist in Tokyo two years ago, Frerichs is a member of the Bowerman Track Club now located in Eugene and coached by Oregon’s Jerry Schumacher.

The BTC’s Christina Aragon is also entered.

For Oregon, freshman Klaudia Kazimierska, who recently ran 4:11.15, is entered, as is Maddy Elmore, Harper McClain, Emilie Girard, Melissa Berry, Ella Nelson, Mia Moerck and Anika Thompson.

Men’s 1,500

Oregon’s Elliott Cook, the 2022 Pac-12 champion in the 800, is entered unattached, a designation he has raced under this outdoor season giving the impression he is redshirting. James Gormley, who was third in this race last season, is the only other Duck entered.

Miguel Coca, the 2023 Division-II indoor mile champion from powerhouse Adams College is entered, as is Portland standout Cathal Doyle.

Women’s discus

Oregon’s Jaida Ross competes in the women’s discus during the Oregon Preview meet at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Jaida Ross and Mine De Klerk are entered for Oregon. Ross, who set the school record on the shot put earlier this season, is ranked No. 12 nationally in the discus with a season-best mark and PR of 189-1. De Klerk has also thrown 169-7 this season.

Women’s hammer

Oregon’s Shelby Moran said earlier this season the school record was on her radar. She’ll get one last chance to set that mark at home. The junior has thrown 216 feet, 11 inches this season. The record, set by Britney Henry in 2006, is 221-7.
