Here are 5 big games to watch in Week 3 of high school football season in Bucks County area

Week 3 of the high school football season is quickly upon us and there are plenty of enticing games worth heading out to watch.

Here's a look at our Five Games to Watch for Week 3. All five are on Friday night.

Central Bucks East (2-0) at Souderton (2-0), 7 p.m.

The Patriots have done what good teams do in both of their games thus far.

Taking care of business and leaving no doubt.

In their two games, against Harry S. Truman and Bensalem, East has not allowed a point and has put up 42 and 36 points, respectively. Against the Owls last week, the Patriots nearly had 400 yards of total offense.

They'll face a Big Red team that reached the PIAA District One Class 6A quarterfinals last season and has plenty of experience back.

Souderton, which will be looking to avenge a 30-13 loss to the Patriots last year, has played two tight games, beating Haverford High 21-17 on Opening Night and rallying in the fourth quarter last week to edge rival Pennridge, 19-14.

Central Bucks West head coach Rob Rowan has his team off to a 2-0 start.

Pennsbury (1-1) at Council Rock South (2-0), 7 p.m.

After an Opening-Night loss to powerful Coatesville, the Falcons bounced back in style by blanking William Tennent 45-0.

Senior Nate Beighley highlighted the offense for Pennsbury by throwing a pair of touchdown passes and rushing for another — all in the first quarter.

The Falcons, who won this matchup 41-6 in 2022, will face a surprising Golden Hawks team that has allowed only 10 total points in two games, wins over Tennent and Neshaminy.

Against Neshaminy, senior quarterback Chase Ennis, a Penn State baseball commit, threw three touchdown passes and ran for another in a 28-7 victory.

Central Bucks West (2-0) at Quakertown (1-1), 7 p.m.

The Bucks, our preseason No. 1 team in the Courier Times/Intelligencer area, has been as good as, even probably better, than advertised.

In successive weeks, West has knocked off defending PIAA District One Class 6A champion Garnet Valley, 17-13, and defending District One Class 5A champion Upper Dublin, 37-7.

The Bucks, who beat Quakertown 56-14 last year, had a 21-0 lead over the Flying Cardinals in the first quarter and were never threatened.

As for the Panthers, who dropped their opener to 2-0 Southern Lehigh, they rebounded in style to upend North Penn 38-17 for their first win over the Knights since 1979.

Senior quarterback Vince Micucci led the way in the victory with five touchdown passes while the Panthers' defense did not allow a point in the second half.

Pennridge (0-2) at Bensalem (0-2), 7 p.m.

The Rams and first-year head coach Kyle Beller are looking for their first win against an Owls team that will be doing the same.

After falling to rugged Downingtown East in its opener, Pennridge took rival Souderton to the edge before dropping a 19-14 decision in a game they led 14-0 in the second half.

The Owls, after sustaining a 6-0 defeat in their opener against 2-0 Lower Merion, were upended 36-0 by unbeaten Central Bucks East last week.

Pennridge beat Bensalem 35-0 last season.

North Penn (0-2) at Upper Dublin (1-1), 7 p.m.

The Knights look to pick up their first win of the season against a Flying Cardinals team that beat them 32-28 a season.

North Penn has allowed 72 points in its two losses, 34 against La Salle High on Opening Night and 38 against Quakertown last week in a 38-17 loss. The Knights had a 7-0 lead early against the Panthers and trailed by just eight points at halftime, but couldn't muster any offense after the break.

As for the Flying Cardinals, the defending District One Class 5A champions, they'll look to rebound from a 37-7 loss to 2-0 CB West last week after opening the season with a 21-0 win over Kennett.
