49ers vs. Lions: Here's our betting advice for the NFC Championship

The Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers square off in the NFC Championship game this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at Levi's Stadium.

The 49ers advanced to their fourth title game in five seasons after their 24-21 fourth quarter come-from-behind victory over the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round.

Meanwhile, the Lions are in completely unfamiliar territory. Detroit's appearing in its first NFC Championship game since 1991 when they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Washington Redskins in Super Bowl 26.

This will be the first time the Lions and 49ers face off since Week 1 of the 2021 regular season, where San Francisco defeated Detroit 41-33 in the first game of the Dan Campbell, Brad Holmes era.

Will the 49ers win their eighth George Halas (NFC Champion) trophy or can the Lions pull off the huge upset and make their first Super Bowl in franchise history?

Here's my betting analysis on the spread, total and moneyline for the NFC Championship game:

49ers vs. Lions spread: 49ers -7 (-110), Lions +7.5 (-115)

The longshot of Championship weekend is clearly the Lions as they're as high as a 7.5-point underdogs on multiple sportsbooks and are all the way down at +750 (Bet $100 to win $750) to win Super Bowl 58.

To me, Detroit's getting disrespected at this current number.

The Lions are a league-best 13-6 against the spread (ATS) combined in the regular season and postseason, and have covered in seven of nine road games.

Meanwhile, the 49ers struggled covering at home this season. The team went only 3-6 ATS at Levi's Stadium, including failing to cover in each of their last six contests on their home turf.

The last time San Francisco covered the spread at home was a 42-10 blowout victory over the Dallas Cowboys all the way back in Week 6.

More importantly, multiple key starters did not practice on Thursday for the 49ers in defensive end Nick Bosa (rest), wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) and left tackle Trent Williams (rest).

The Lions also have their own injury concerns with starters as tight end Sam LaPorta (knee), center Frank Ragnow (ankle, toe, knee and back) and guard Jonah Jackson (knee), all didn't practice to start the week on Wednesday.

To me, this line is inflated too heavily here to San Francisco as I see a similar script that happened last week against Green Bay where the team needed to overcome a 21-14 deficit heading into the final quarter last week, as the 49ers almost lost as a double-digit favorite.

Bet Detroit to cover this touchdown spread, especially on multiple sportsbooks in New Jersey where the Lions are 7.5-point underdogs with a price of -115 (Bet $115 to net $100).

Prediction: Lions +7.5 (-115)

49ers vs. Lions total: Over 51 points (-110), Under 52 points (-110)

Of the two Championship games, the highest total resides here with some sportsbooks having this line as high as 52 points for Sunday night in Santa Clara.

This should come as no surprise as these two NFC organizations were two of the best in the entire NFL this season in going over the projected total.

The Lions are 12-7 to the over in 19 games this season and have had a total of 50 points or higher in seven of their past 10 contests.

While the 49ers haven't been great to the over, they've conceded at least 21 points in four of their last five matchups and are facing a Detroit team that's put up 30 or more points in four of its prior six games.

Both defenses have proven to be soft against the pass this season which I believe each team will continue to try and exploit in this game.

I'm betting on this highly anticipated showdown to be a shootout in the Bay Area and would still bet on the over despite the high line.

Caesars Sportsbook is the only option to bet this number of 51 with a price of -110 as all other sportsbooks have already shifted this number to 51.5 or 52 points.

Prediction: Over 51 points (-110)

The 49ers are heavy favorites just as they were a week ago versus the Packers.

To me, the biggest impact in this game will be does Samuel play? The offense noticeably stalled out when the dual-threat playmaker left last week's game with a shoulder injury. This was also the case in the middle of the season when the 28-year-old missed time with injury and the team lost three straight games after a 5-0 start.

Do the Lions have all the firepower they need to pull off the upset in arguably their biggest game in franchise history? Absolutely. No one now should be shocked if Detroit's able to move on to its first Super Bowl ever.

While I think it's a possibility, ultimately I expect Deebo to suit up and give it a go as the 49ers are just too much offensively for the Lions to overcome.

Detroit will keep it close, but San Francisco advances to its second Super Bowl in five years.

PointsBet Sportsbook offers the cheapest price at -325 (Bet $325 to win $100) for the 49ers on the moneyline.

Prediction: 49ers 31, Lions 27
