4 wide receivers for Chargers who stood out at 2023 NFL Scouting Combine
The 2023 NFL Scouting Combine continued on Saturday as a handful of quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends took the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN.
Here are four wideouts who could be on the Chargers’ radar that increased their stock with eye-opening demonstrations of athleticism.
Trey Palmer, Nebraska

The Chargers need to add an explosive element to their offense. While many are banking on them doing so in the first round, if Los Angeles goes a different direction, they can still accomplish that on Day 2 with someone like Palmer. Palmer clocked a ridiculous 4.33-second 40-yard dash, topping all wide receivers participating. He was the fastest offensive player at the Senior Bowl and carried it over to the combine.
Andrei Iosivas, Princeton

Iosivas, the world-class track athlete from Hawaii, had his speed on full display. He posted a very nice 4.43 40-yard dash at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds. In addition, he had the second-fastest three-cone drill (6.85 seconds) and 20-yard shuttle (4.12 seconds) among all receivers. Additionally, Iosivas looked smooth in his routes with good hands during the on-field drills. Between his collegiate career, the Senior Bowl, and now the combine, Iosivas has generated plenty of buzz. And he could be what the Chargers need when they’re picking on Day 2.
Marvin Mims, Oklahoma

Mims is one of my favorite Day 2 targets for the Chargers, and he continued to show further why he should be high on their draft board. Mims exemplified his speed that’s on tape with a 4.38 40-yard dash. He added to that an explosive 39.5-inch vertical and a 10-foot-9 broad jump. Mims also looked very good in the gauntlet drill.
Josh Downs, North Carolina

Downs falls under the category where the Chargers taking him in the first round might be too rich, and expecting him to fall to the second round might be nonexistent. But Downs is really what Los Angeles could benefit from. While he might be short and slender, Downs is an explosive receiver, and the testing numbers reflected that with a 38.5-inch vertical and 11-foot-1 broad jump. He also ran a nice time of 4.48 seconds in the 40-yard dash. Furthermore, Downs had one of the best gauntlet drills, and he was very smooth in his routes.
