What’s happening around the NFL today?

A dude lost his finger, a team unveiled a (Great Value-level) rebrand, and Patrick Mahomes took the high road. Plus more.

Check out the top NFL stories below.

Saints DE Marcus Davenport... gets a partial finger amputation?!

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

“Davenport told Nola.com’s Luke Johnson that he had his left pinkie finger partially amputated this offseason; an infection had developed near a plate that had been put in to fix a college injury. It’s one of three procedures he went through this spring, along with two right shoulder surgeries.”

WHAT.

My man lost half his pinkie, and he’s moving on like it’s just another injury? Business as usual? Couple shoulder surgeries, little bit of rest, and, oh, also a finger amputation?!

What a badass.

Eagles unveil new wordmark, fans aren't crazy about it

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Oh, a rebrand. Philly changed their wordmark. Cool. Let’s take a…

Oh. Ohhh. Okay?

So new font is… bold letters? And those are… maybe wings on the E’s?

Alrighty.

Okay, in all seriousness, it’s not that bad. Let’s say it’s just… uninspired? The old logo had character and is at least recognizable, while the new one looks like it was pulled from a junior high school graphic design competition. But hey — could be worse.

[*Cough* Washington *Cough*]

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes doesn't seem bothered by Tyreek Hill's podcast

Patrick Mahomes is a stand-up guy. He’ll always take the high road during pressers. The dude was born to lead a franchise, so he knows what to say, always.

So it’s not a shock that he downplayed receiver Tyreek Hill’s podcast comments and instead praised his former teammate. Mahomes won’t fire back… with words, anyway. The field is a different story. That’s where Petty Patrick Mahomes will show up. We’ve seen it before. When the Chiefs play the Dolphins in 2023, don’t be surprised if Mahomes throws more touchdowns than Hill has receptions in that game.

Congress asks NFL commish Roger Goodell to release the (Dan) Snyder cut

“On Wednesday, June 22, the House Committee on Oversight and Reform will begin hearings regarding the reports of a hostile workplace environment in the case of the now-Washington Commanders in the franchise’s iterations as the Washington Football Team, and the Washington Redskins … six members of Congress have asked NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to release the report put together by attorney Beth Wilkinson.”

What are the odds Goodell actually releases this report, which could release dirt on the NFL itself? Per Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar, the likelihood is “not outstanding.” What a shock.

Do the right thing, Roger. Get it over with.

Hurry-up offense: 2 more quick notes

Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

Two more notes and I’ll leave. Promise.

  1. QB Justin Fields says the Bears offense isn’t ready to play a game right now. That’s an evergreen statement.

  2. 11 cities with NFL stadiums will host the 2026 World Cup: Atlanta, Boston/New England, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle.
