Here are 38 of the best high school girls golfers in Wisconsin for 2023

The high school girls golf season is underway in Wisconsin, and in less than two months, state champions will be crowned.

The WIAA state tournament is Oct. 9-10 at University Ridge in Madison. Westosha Central is the defending Division 1 team champion and The Prairie School is the defending Division 2 champ.

Izzi Stricker of Waunakee returns as the reigning Division 1 individual state champ. A new individual champion will be crowned in Division 2 after senior Ava Salay of Prescott won a year ago.

Here are 38 of the best players in the state heading into the season.

Ava Beranek, sr., Bay Port

Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin honorable-mention all-state last season. Tied for 46th at the Division 1 state meet with a two-day total of 177. Tied for third at the Kimberly sectional at High Cliff with an 81. Tied for second at the Bay Port regional at Brown County with a 78.

Norah Berken, sr., Kaukauna

Tied for 35th at the Division 1 state meet with a 171. Tied for sixth at the Kimberly sectional with an 83. Tied for third at the Appleton East regional at Reid Golf Course with an 81.

Ellen Close, sr., Middleton

Honorable-mention all-state last season after tying for 22nd place at the Division 1 state meet with a 162. Finished fourth at the Middleton sectional at Pleasant View with an 81. Took third place at the Reedsburg regional at Reedsburg Country Club with a 78.

Vivian Cressman, sr., Middleton

First-team all-state last season after tying for fifth place at the Division 1 state meet with a 151. Tied for second at the Middleton sectional with a 77. Took second at the Reedsburg regional with a 76. Had an excellent summer, winning the Wisconsin Junior Girls Championship in July and the Sherri Steinhauer Championship in August.

Emma Cunningham, fr., Green Bay Preble co-op

One of the state’s top incoming freshmen, she took first place at the Wisconsin Junior Par 3 Championship at Sand Valley in July.

Breanne Delisle, so., Brookfield Central

Honorable-mention all-state last season. Tied for 11th at the Brookfield Central sectional at Wanaki with an 83. Took second place at the Wauwatosa East regional at Dretzka Park with an 82.

Addie Farrell, jr., Homestead

Finished sixth at the Fond du Lac sectional at Rolling Meadows with an 82. Tied for 10th at the Homestead regional at MeeKwon with a 90.

Jaelyn Feller, jr., Appleton East

Tied for sixth at the Kimberly sectional with an 83. Tied for fifth at the Appleton East regional at Reid with an 83.

Ava Frederiksen, sr., Stevens Point

Tied for 35th at the Division 1 state meet with a 171. Tied for ninth at the Hudson sectional at Troy Burne with a 90. Tied for third place at the Tomah regional at Hiawatha Golf Club with an 87.

Delainey Halverson, jr., Oregon

Honorable-mention all-state last season. Finished 10th at the Middleton sectional with an 88. Won medalist honors at the Oregon regional with an 84 at The Legend at Bergamont.

Madison Haugen, sr., Brookfield East

First-team all-state last season after finishing fourth at the Division 1 state meet with a 150. Finished second at the Fond du Lac sectional with a 74. Took second at the Homestead regional with a 75. Tied for fourth at the Wisconsin PGA Junior Championship in June.

First-team all-state last season after finishing in seventh place at the Division 1 state meet with a 152. Was the medalist at the Fond du Lac sectional with a 69. Won medalist honors at the Homestead regional with a 68. Finished third at the Wisconsin PGA Junior Championship in June.

Abigail Henriksen, fr., DeForest

One of the state’s top incoming freshmen, she advanced to the semifinals of the Wisconsin Junior Girls Championship at Hartford Golf Course in late July and also finished second at the College Showcase.

Daniella Honkamp, jr., Whitefish Bay

Tied for 30th place at the Division 1 state meet last season with a 166. Tied for fourth at the Fond du Lac sectional with an 81. Tied for seventh at the Homestead regional with an 87.

Adalyn Johnston, sr., Bay Port

Honorable-mention all-state last season after tying for 18th place at the Division 1 state meet with a 160. Finished second at the Kimberly sectional with an 80. Tied for second at the Bay Port regional with a 78.

Brianna Kirsch, sr., Lancaster

Honorable-mention all-state last season after finishing sixth in Division 2 with a 166. Won medalist honors at the Prairie du Chien sectional at Prairie du Chien Country Club with a 78. Won medalist honors at the Black River Falls regional at Skyline Golf Course with an 81.

Belle Kongshaug, so., Colfax/Elk Mound

Third-team all-state last season after finishing in second place at the Division 2 state meet with a 151. Took second place at the Northwestern sectional at Hidden Greens North with an 80. Took third place at the Baldwin-Woodville regional at Pheasant Hills with a 77.

Kate Krueger, sr., Divine Savior Holy Angels

Honorable-mention all-state last season after finishing 32nd at the Division 1 state meet with a 168. Tied for fourth at the Fond du Lac sectional with an 81. Tied for third at the Homestead regional with an 84.

Taylor Lemire, jr., Appleton North

Tied for 25th at the Kimberly sectional with a 92. Tied for third at the Appleton East regional with an 81.

Second-team all-state last season after finishing in ninth place at the Division 1 state meet with a 154. Tied for medalist honors at the Brookfield Central sectional with a 75. Won medalist honors at the Waukesha South regional at Broadlands with a 76.

Lexi Manteufel, sr., Union Grove

Honorable-mention all-state last season after tying for 22nd place at the Division 1 state meet with a 162. Tied for eighth at the Janesville Parker sectional at Janesville Country Club with a 91. Tied for fourth place at the Union Grove regional at Ives Grove with a 77.

Gabbi Matzek, jr., Prescott

Honorable-mention all-state last season after finishing in 16th place at the Division 2 state meet with a 177. Tied for third place at the Northwestern sectional with an 83. Took fifth place at the Baldwin-Woodville regional with an 85.

McKenna Nelson, fr., Beaver Dam

One of the state’s top incoming freshmen, she tied for fourth at the Wisconsin PGA Junior Championship and won the Women’s State Match Play Championship in June. She competed in the Drive, Chip & Putt national finals in 2021.

Kadyn Peery, sr., The Prairie School

Honorable-mention all-state last season after finishing in 10th place at the Division 2 state meet with a 169. Finished seventh at the Catholic Memorial sectional with an 87. Tied for seventh at The Prairie School regional with a 94.

Ava Pesha, sr., Somerset

Finished seventh at the Division 2 state meet last season with a two-day total of 167. Tied for third place at the Northwestern sectional with an 83. Won medalist honors at the Baldwin-Woodville regional with a 74.

Sarah Ramsden, sr., Beloit Memorial

Honorable-mention all-state last season. Finished 11th at the Janesville Parker sectional with a 93. Finished third at the Elkhorn regional at Evergreen Country Club with a 79.

Talia Schlindwein, jr., Wausau East/West

Tied for eighth place at the Kimberly sectional with an 84. Tied for fourth at the Bay Port regional with an 84.

Payton Schmidt, sr., Jefferson

Honorable-mention all-state last season after finishing in fifth place in Division 2 with a 164. Tied for second at the Prairie du Chien sectional with an 82. Won medalist honors at the Lakeside Lutheran regional at Kestrel Ridge with a 78.

Jenna Schumacher, sr., Kimberly

Tied for 18th at the Kimberly sectional with an 89. Tied for fifth at the Appleton East regional with an 83.

Jordan Shipshock, sr., Waunakee

Honorable-mention all-state last season after tying for 22nd place at the Division 1 state meet with a 162. Tied for second at the Middleton sectional with a 77. Took fourth place at the Reedsburg regional with a 79.

Honorable-mention all-state last season after finishing in 15th place at the Division 2 state meet with a 176. Took seventh place at the Northwestern sectional with an 87. Tied for sixth place at the Baldwin-Woodville regional with an 89.

Katelyn Walker, sr., Westosha Central

Second-team all-state last season after tying for fifth place at the Division 1 state meet with a 151. Finished fourth at the Janesville Parker sectional with an 84. Tied for fourth at the Union Grove regional with a 77. Won the Wisconsin Dells Junior Golf Championship in late June.

Kylie Walker, sr., Westosha Central

First-team all-state last year and the state’s co-player of the year after finishing second at the Division 1 state meet with a 145. Finished third at the Janesville Parker sectional with an 82. Took second at the Union Grove regional with a 73. Won the Lake Arrowhead Invitational on Aug. 7.
