321preps Top 10 high school football rankings entering Week 2 of 2023

Eau Gallie makes a move this week, and Merritt Island enters the 321preps rankings after a big win in its season opener.

We now have one week of results and some games coming Friday that could sort out the top teams in Brevard County high school football even better based on the results.

Vote: DC Roofing 321preps Athlete of the Week for Aug. 21-26

Here is where our rankings stand entering Week 2 of the 2023 regular season:

1. Cocoa (1-0)

The Tigers avenged last year's home loss to Orlando Jones with a return visit in the regular-season opener. Cocoa enters a week where Friday's home game is questionable with Venice in the potential path of Hurricane Idalia and the team's travel uncertain. Last week: 1

T2. Eau Gallie (1-0)

The Commodores move up into a tie with their District 10-3S opponent. The two don't play until Oct. 27, but it could be a game with major impact down the line. Eau Gallie has an impressive preseason win over Titusville and a road opener victory at Springstead. Last week: 3

T2. Rockledge (0-1)

The trip to Seminole resulted in a closer game than the preseason home contest with Carrollwood Day. The Raiders head to Texas with maybe an even bigger challenge on the line in Duncanville, the defending Class 6A Division I champion and the top-ranked team in the poll released by the Associated Press. Last week: 2

4. Heritage (1-0)

The Panthers defense hasn't allowed a point and is riding high with confidence. They face a Pirates defense next that also didn't allow a point in its Week 1 victory, so the offenses may have it tough Friday. Last week: 4

Domination: Heritage Panthers dominant shut out Satellite

5. Titusville (1-0)

Here is another team with a bit of uncertainty around it's Week 2 game. The Terriers plan to head to Yulee in the Jacksonville area, but Hurricane Idalia impact could affect the schedule. Titusville picked up an important opening-week win over big-school Melbourne. Last week: 7

6. Palm Bay (1-0)

The Pirates shut out rival Bayside, the first on-field action after not having played a preseason game. That first view of the team is positive, but the result at Heritage on Friday will be much more revealing. Last week: 6

7. Merritt Island (1-0)

After not being included in these rankings in Week 1, the Mustangs made themselves the biggest mover here. The win over Deltona was convincing, and it gives the team lots of momentum with Melbourne coming to town. If Merritt Island wins this week, the season is looking good. Last week: unranked.

8. Melbourne (0-1)

The Bulldogs have a bit of a positive and a bit of a negative from their first two outings against opposition. A win at Merritt Island — and this series has had some recent dandy finishes — and Melbourne has more to build on. Last week: 5

9. MCC (1-0)

The offense looked strong and showcased an array of weapons for Melbourne Central Catholic, playing quickly in the win at Astronaut. That's a good start toward rebuilding from 2-8. Last week: 10

Fast start: MCC football looks to reverse recent trend, off to good start

10. Holy Trinity (1-0)

The margin of victory against a solid Cocoa Beach team had to be encouraging for the Tigers and their fans. If they can keep it going on the road against a bigger school at Bayside on Friday, that's an even better sign. Last week: unranked.
