Which 3 wide receivers Notre Dame should target with a spot open in 2024 class
Unfortunately for Notre Dame, 4-star wide receiver Isaih Canion decommitted on Saturday.
The Irish aren’t in a terrible position, they still have commitments from Cam Williams and Micah Gilbert with athletes Teddy Rezac and Brauntae Johnson potentially getting reps at the position as well.
With Canion leaving the class, there are still 20 current commits so it would be a good idea to add another receiver to replace him.
The Irish didn’t have any uncommitted wide receivers make an official visits during the spring period, so that means they will bring in potential matches during a Saturday in South Bend. Here are my top three targets the Irish should turn to with an open scholarship.
Ryan Wingo
Ryan Wingo’s In-Game Athleticism (IGA) Score of 89.4 can be primarily attributed to his play speed, reaching a max speed of 20.6 mph on this 76-yard touchdown. #ReelAnalytics

Why
The 6-foot, 2-inch and 205 pounder is one of the best players in the country, ranking as the 7th best receiver and 26th overall player according to the 247Sports composite. The Missouri native made some official visits during the spring but hasn’t dropped a top list. The Irish should go after him hard.
Daniel Freitag
2024 WR/ATH DANIEL FREITAG
Week 7 Highlights (W 29-22):
11 Car
6 Rec
160+ Yds
3 TD, 1 Pass. TD
2 INT, 1 PBU pic.twitter.com/x8qy2dFoYQ— Daniel Freitag (2024) (@DanielFreitag_) October 16, 2022
Why
The California native is currently committed to Wisconsin basketball but the Irish aren’t strangers to having dual-sport athletes in South Bend. Freitag is 6-foot, 2-inches and 175 pounds and if he decided to focus on solely football, his ceiling would be extremely high.
Kwazi Gilmer
Four-star 2024 WR Kwazi Gilmer has been really impressive today for Sierra Canyon at the Long Beach Tournament of Champions. UCLA, UW, Cal, Stanford, Michigan State & Oklahoma make up his top 6.https://t.co/hqrbO5ohj4 pic.twitter.com/UgRtd8TyDP

Why
The Irish offered Gilmer in January, but never could get him on on campus. There is the thought that he could make his verbal commitment during the summer, but if Notre Dame is able to get him on campus for an official visit in the fall, it could change the course for the 6-foot, 2-inch and 180 pound California receiver.
Big picture

Does it matter?
With the two receiver commits and two athletes verbals, Notre Dame is in a good position to deal with a decommitment. Was it the most ideal situation, no, but it’s a bit late in the game with a lot of the uncommitted receivers. It’s not the end of the world if the Irish don’t add on, but it would be nice.
