3 things to know: Warriors close late behind Steph Curry’s 41 points to steal win vs. Bucks, 122-121

Despite a fast start that saw the Golden State Warriors jumping out to an 18-5 advantage in the first quarter, the Milwaukee Bucks fought back to carry a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter at Chase Center on Tuesday night. However, with Giannis Antetokounmpo sidelined with knee soreness, the Bucks had no answer for Steph Curry down the stretch.

The seven-time All-Star point guard tallied 30 of his game-high 41 points in the second half against the Bucks leading to a 122-121 victory for the Warriors. Curry added six boards and four assists while hitting five triples in 38 minutes.

Along with Curry’s late flurry of buckets, Kelly Oubre Jr. knocked down a pair of critical free throws with 7.7 seconds remaining to give the Warriors a late lead. On the next possession, Andrew Wiggins came up with a key block against Khris Middleton to help snap Golden State’s three-game losing slide.

Foul Trouble

To cap their recent three-game losing streak on the road, the Warriors sent the Atlanta Hawks to the free-throw line 45 times behind 26 personal fouls. Along with a bevy of fouls against the Hawks, the Warriors turned the ball over 16 times. Curry led the Warriors’ messy attack with eight turnovers in Atlanta.

In the Golden State’s return to Chase Center against the Bucks, the fouls were cleaned up. Although Draymond Green fouled out of the contest, the Warriors committed only 18 fouls. Instead of giving up over 40 attempts from the free-throw line, Milwaukee only made 22 trips to the charity stripe. Golden State didn’t allow less than 25 free throws in each contest during their three-game losing skid.

James Wiseman

After a quiet stretch, James Wiseman bounced back against the Bucks, recording the third double-double effort of his young career. The 2020 second overall pick tallied 13 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor with 10 boards. Wiseman added a pair of assists with one block in 25 minutes.

Kent Bazemore

Behind Curry and Oubre Jr.’s scoring attack in the starting lineup, Kent Bazemore provided crucial scoring off the bench against the Bucks.
The veteran guard dropped 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor with two assists and two steals in 26 minutes in the second unit. Bazemore was especially hot from long distance, drilling four triples on four attempts from beyond the arc. Bazemore’s 18 points was his highest-scoring total since Feb. 17 against the Miami Heat.
