Gavin Potter added some spice to his signing ceremony.

Potter, a three-star linebacker from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, made a verbal commitment to Kansas State back in October, but did not sign during the early signing period after Bill Snyder’s retirement. Potter earned some additional scholarships late in his recruiting process and visited Kansas, Colorado State and Texas Tech in addition to KSU.

When it came time to finally announce his decision, Potter added some flair. He walked in wearing a Kansas State sweatshirt and then took it off to reveal a Texas Tech shirt. From there, he removed the TTU shirt to reveal the Kansas logo painted onto his chest, signaling his choice: KU.

Fans at Texas Tech and Kansas State probably won’t forget that display. And fans from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State likely won’t take too kindly to what he told Jeff Kolb of Fox 23 after announcing his decision.

“OU and OSU made the worst decision that they’ve ever made letting me leave Oklahoma,” Potter said. “I’m going to look forward to playing them. I’m going to look forward to playing them. That’s what I love to do. I love to prove people wrong. That’s going to be two games I’m going to have a lot of fun playing.”

Potter received a late offer from Oklahoma State last week, but it was not enough to land his signature. At Kansas, Potter will get to play for a former Oklahoma State head coach, Les Miles. Miles had a four-season stint in Stillwater before his 11 years at LSU. It’s Miles’ first coaching job since he was fired during the 2016 season.

Potter was one of eight prospects to sign with Kansas on Wednesday. Steven Parker, a defensive end from Oak Cliff, Texas, was the highest-rated of the bunch. Parker is KU’s lone four-star recruit.

The Jayhawks have a combined 6-42 record over the previous four seasons, so Miles has a lot of work to do. He hopes Potter is one of the guys who can come in and make an immediate impact.

“Yeah, that was certainly a very competitive recruiting process. I think that there was an attachment in a bunch of different ways to this school,” Miles said of Potter’s recruitment. “It appeared to me that he was going to have interest, and some of the times in recruiting it becomes important that certain guys come. It was important to the Kansas Jayhawks that that guy came.”
