3 former Rams vying for a ring in Super Bowl LV

While the Los Angeles Rams and their fans will be at home watching Super Bowl LV on Sunday, three former Rams players will be on the field vying for a ring. None of them were longtime Rams, however, spending at most one season with the franchise.

Here’s a look at three players who will be playing for either the Buccaneers or Chiefs on Sunday in Tampa Bay.

Honorable mention: Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo, former head coach of the Rams from 2009-2011.

Watkins only spent one year with the Rams in 2017 after they acquired him from the Bills right before the season. Los Angeles traded E.J. Gaines and a 2018 second-round pick for Watkins and a 2018 sixth-rounder, marking the first blockbuster trade of the Sean McVay era. In 2017 with the Rams, he caught 39 passes for 593 yards and eight touchdowns, which is the same number of touchdowns he’s scored in three years with the Chiefs since. Watkins signed with Kansas City in 2018 and has been there ever since. He won a ring with the Chiefs last year in Super Bowl LIV.

Suh will be playing in his second Super Bowl today after reaching the big game in 2018, his only season with the Rams. Los Angeles signed him to a one-year, $14 million deal in 2018, going all-in that year in an attempt to win a ring – which they almost did. Suh then signed with the Bucs in 2019 and has been there ever since. In two seasons with Tampa Bay, he’s recorded 8.5 sacks, 85 tackles and 33 QB hits, returning two of his four recovered fumbles for touchdowns. After coming up short in Super Bowl LIII with the Rams, Suh will try to capture his first ring against the Chiefs today.

Chiefs OT Mike Remmers

Remmers is a journeyman lineman, spending time with seven different teams. In 2014, the Rams signed him to their practice squad just before the season started. A month later, he was signed off the practice squad by the Panthers where he got his first real chance to start in the NFL. He started five games for Carolina in 2014 before starting all 32 the next two seasons. He signed a five-year deal with the Vikings in 2017 but was released after two seasons and signed with the Giants. This past offseason, Remmers joined the Chiefs and played 13 games, starting 10. He’ll be the starter at left tackle on Sunday against the Bucs, replacing Eric Fisher.
