The diamond sports continue, especially with another talented season of high school softball in Columbia.
Last season, there were plenty of talented players who earned postseason accolades and helped lift their specific teams in districts and beyond. Some of those players are back.
Here are the high school softball players to know around Columbia as the season approaches the midway point.
Father Tolton
Madison Uptegrove
Sadie Sexauer
Montana Strobel
Bella Trim
Eva Viox
What to know about Tolton: The Trailblazers advanced out of a tough district last season, and the core of that group returns. Uptegrove, a University of Missouri commit, is one of the best players in the state and leads the group. Strobel, Viox and Sexauer are also all-state candidates, while Trim can grow into a talented pitcher.

What to know about Hickman: Under first-year coach Whitni Howell, the Kewpies are very young. But with youth comes potential, and Hickman has it with Hanson, Spratt, and Schoeneberg. Grant and Bryan are upperclassmen who can help lead the team, too.

What to know about Battle: The Spartans are gaining experience with a talented junior class. The team, in coach Ashanti Caine's second year, will have a learning curve to endure but that learning curve has the potential to give way to a talented roster of players this season and beyond.

What to know about Rock Bridge: The Bruins are back, even with the graduations of Anna Christ and Abby Hay. Rock Bridge has a deep pitching rotation, which takes the pressure off the team's bats. Still, those bats are powered by Fullerton and Morris, two of the best players in the state. Morris was a high school All-American last season, too.
