2024 NFL draft order: Rams approaching top 5 after Week 9 loss

After losing three straight games, Los Angeles Rams fans have turned their attention more toward the 2024 draft order than the current playoff picture. The Rams aren’t technically out of the playoff race yet, but at 3-6, things are looking bleak for Sean McVay’s squad.

The good news is that the Rams actually have a first-round pick in 2024, so if they do finish the season as one of the worst teams, they’ll be able to take advantage with an early draft pick – unlike last year when their top selection was No. 36 overall.

With Los Angeles hitting its Week 10 bye and this being the unofficial halfway point in the season, it’s not a bad time to look at where the Rams stand in the current draft order. According to Tankathon, the Rams currently hold the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 draft. They’re the only 3-6 team in the NFL, with five other teams having a worse record.

Here’s how the top 10 looks as of now, with plenty of football still to be played.

  1. Cardinals: 1-8

  2. Bears (via 1-7 CAR)

  3. Bears: 2-7

  4. Giants: 2-7

  5. Patriots: 2-7

  6. Rams: 3-6

  7. Packers: 3-5

  8. Buccaneers: 3-5

  9. Broncos: 3-5

  10. Titans: 3-5

The Rams will have a few different options in the first round of the 2024 draft. If they end up with a top-10 pick, they could use it on a quarterback to eventually replace Matthew Stafford. That would set them up for success in the future, but it may not help them immediately in 2024 if Stafford returns as he’s expected to.

The Rams could also stand pat and take a stud left tackle, a top edge rusher or a cornerback to shore up the secondary. What might be most intriguing, however, is trading back and maybe adding a second first-round pick in 2024 or 2025.

There’s a long way to go before that conversation comes to the forefront, but the Rams have a good chance to pick near the top of the first round next year.
