2024 NFL draft: Giants load up in 7-round post-Combine mock
The 2024 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana concluded on Sunday, and the fate of many prospects was changed.
With the on-field testing now out of the way, Giants Wire decided to take a second shot at a full 7-round mock draft for the New York Giants.
Because our initial Round 1 mock draft was so controversial, we eliminated all trades in this one just as we had in our first 7-round mock. That’s obviously not how the actual draft will play out but allowing only a single trade the first time was justifiably unrealistic as well.
For this mock draft, we once again used the Pro Football Focus mock draft simulator and left all settings on default. We chose only for the Giants.
Here’s a look at the Giants’ seven-round haul.
Round 1 (No. 6): Rome Odunze, WR, Washington
We thought Malik Nabers might have been the pick here because he had fallen in other simulations, but he got snatched up this time. Instead, with Nabers and the top three quarterbacks off the board, the Giants snag a true WR1 with Washington’s Rome Odunze, who has become an increasingly popular mock to the team.
Round 2 (No. 39): J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan
J.J. McCarthy put on a show at the NFL Combine and it’s entirely possible — maybe even likely — that he goes in the top 10 of the 2024 NFL draft. He most certainly won’t last until pick No. 39 but he did in this simulation.
Also notable, we ran simulations on Pro Football Network and McCarthy went as high as No. 11 but as low as No. 35 (that simulation had AI trades enabled).
Round 2 (No. 47): Adisa Isaac, EDGE, Penn State
We honestly did not expect Adisa Isaac to be available at this spot. In every other simulation we’ve run, he was always taken before pick No. 47. For whatever reason, he was available this time around and the Giants land an ideal edge rusher to pair with Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Round 3 (No. 70): Brenden Rice, WR, USC
This spot has been barren for the Giants in every simulation we’ve run. Team needs simply do not meet the available talent and with no trades permitted, it left us selecting a second wide receiver for the second straight time. In this case, Brenden Rice was the top available wideout. The son of Jerry Rice told reporters at the NFL Combine that he would love to play for the Giants.
Round 4 (No. 108): Audric Estime, RB, Notre Dame
We said it before, we’ll say it again: Audric Estime, a New York native, is a 5-foot-11, 227-pound power back. Assuming the Giants go with more of a rotation in 2024, he would provide a unique element to the backfield with his patience and North-South running style. He’s not going to break a bit one and out-run speedy defenders and he’ll need to improve as a receiver, but in short-yardage situations, Estime would be a good one to have.
Round 5 (No. 140): Cooper Beebe, OG, Kansas State
The Giants are going to invest in the free agent guard market but that shouldn’t prevent them from adding depth in the draft. After his performance at the NFL Combine, Cooper Beebe may not be available at this spot but if he is, it’s a potential steal for the Giants.
Round 6 (No. 185): Daijahn Anthony, S, Mississippi
Daijahn Anthony is a solid player capable of taking snaps at safety and nickel. He is a big hitter with good man coverage skills and is fast enough to play over the top. His game needs some work but once things slow down for him, he has the potential to be a quality NFL starter or above-average backup.
