2023 Penn State football snapshot profile: No. 30 George Hlavac

Going into the 2023 football season, Nittany Lions Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Penn State roster. Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for James Franklin this season.

Today we take a brief look at one of Penn State’s reserve options at the cornerback position, George Hlavac. Hlavac may not be a household name but he will help provide some depth on the roster at one of its strongest positions this season. Here is a quick look at a player deep on the roster.

George Hlavac had no recruiting profile of note coming out of high school at Allentown Central Catholic High School. Hlavac had previously committed to Lehigh University, although he has since moved to Penn State’s roster to fill a spot deep on the depth chart.

Career Stats

George Hlavac has no stats at Penn State, and producing any numbers this season could be limited at the very best.

Depth Chart Overview

One of Penn State’s strengths this season could be at the cornerback position. Kalen King returns as arguably one of the best cornerbacks in the nation if not just the Big Ten. He’ll hold down one of the starting jobs in the secondary this season while Johnny Dixon and Cam Miller are expected to battle for the other starting job at cornerback.

Backup options on the roster this season will include Mississippi State transfer Audavion Collins and Lamont Payne Jr., to name a couple. That leaves a player like George Hlavac buried on the depth chart at cornerback.

Hlavac could potentially fill a role on special teams since he likely will not be asked to contribute to the defense in any meaningful capacity.
