Going into the 2023 football season, LSU Wire will be looking at each player listed on the Tigers’ roster.
Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Brian Kelly this season.
We’re looking at a player with a bit of a different journey than most walk-ons on the roster. Welton Spottsville began his career at North Carolina before transferring to Kennesaw State. Now, the junior defensive back looks to make it in the SEC after joining the Tigers this offseason.

Depth Chart Overview
A three-star receiver out of high school, Spottsville moved to defensive back in his second season with North Carolina in 2020. In his two years in Chapel Hill, he appeared in 2022 games, mostly on special teams.
He transferred to Kennesaw State, where he appeared in 10 games with moderate production, totaling a sack and an interception, which earned him recognition from the SportsCenter Top 10.
Spottsville didn’t play in 2022, and he joins a pretty deep LSU secondary. He likely won’t play much on defense, but given his special teams experience, he could ultimately prove to be a major contributor there.
