2023 Dispatch All-Metro: Who are the best girls soccer players in central Ohio?

Players from Division I state runner-up Olentangy Liberty and district champions Bloom-Carroll, Dublin Jerome, Grandview Heights and Upper Arlington highlight the 2023 Dispatch All-Metro girls soccer team.

The Athlete of the Year in each sport — 30 in all — will be announced at the Central Ohio High School Sports Awards in June. Each member of the All-Metro girls soccer team will receive a free ticket to that live event, where nine premier awards also will be announced, including boys and girls overall athletes of the year, boys and girls overall coaches of the year, boys and girls overall teams of the year, courage award, school spirit award and lifetime achievement award.

Lauryn Barringer, Olentangy Orange

A Coastal Carolina commit, the senior midfielder had 13 goals and 12 assists as the Pioneers (16-4-1) reached a Division I district final, losing to Dublin Jerome 2-1. Barringer was first-team all-district and all-OCC-Central and second-team all-state.

Chloe Brecht, Olentangy Liberty

The senior forward helped lead the Patriots to their first state final, losing to Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit 2-1. Brecht led Liberty (19-3-1) in scoring with 20 goals and 14 assists. She was first-team all-state and all-district and OCC-Central Player of the Year. Liberty shared the league title with Upper Arlington at 4-0-1.

Tessa Brooks, Bloom-Carroll

The junior midfielder was first-team all-state and all-district in Division II and Player of the Year in the MSL-Buckeye. She recorded 20 goals and 26 assists in leading the Bulldogs (18-2-2, 9-0-1) to their first district title and 10th MSL championship.

Fina Davy, Olentangy Berlin

A senior midfielder, Davy played a key role in the Bears’ success as they finished 15-4-1, losing to Liberty 2-1 in overtime in a district semifinal. The Louisville commit collected 20 goals and 20 assists and was first-team all-state and all-district and OCC-Cardinal Player of the Year. Berlin shared the league title with Dublin Jerome and Olentangy at 4-1.

Maren Degenhart, Upper Arlington

The junior helped anchor a UA defense that allowed just 13 goals and had 13 shutouts. Degenhart was first-team all-district and all-OCC-Central and second-team all-state in Division I. The Golden Bears (19-3-1) shared the OCC-Central title with Liberty, but lost to the Patriots 2-1 in overtime in a regional final.

Sofia Divine, Worthington Christian

The senior midfielder, an Ashland commit, recorded 22 goals and 13 assists and was named district Player of the Year and first-team all-state in Division III. Divine also shared Central Buckeye League Player of the Year honors with Grandview Heights’ Maci Tew. The Warriors (16-2-3, 6-0-1) reached a district final, losing to Grandview 2-1, and shared the CBL title with Bexley.

Ella Fuller, Dublin Jerome

The senior midfielder played a key role in anchoring the Celtics’ defense and was named first-team all-district and all-OCC-Cardinal and second-team all-state in Division I. A Morehead State commit, Fuller had three goals and four assists as Jerome finished 15-2-2, losing to Upper Arlington 1-0 in a regional semifinal.

Ava Labocki, Granville

A Belmont commit, the senior midfielder led the Blue Aces with 20 goals and 10 assists and was Player of the Year in the district and Licking County League, along with first-team all-state in Division II. Granville (12-3-4, 7-0) won the LCL title before losing to Bloom-Carroll 2-1 in a district final.

Allie Metcalf, New Albany

A North Carolina-Charlotte commit, the senior forward/midfielder collected 18 goals and five assists and was Player of the Year in the district and OCC-Ohio, along with first-team all-state in Division I. New Albany (9-7-2, 5-0) won the OCC-Ohio title before losing 2-1 to Jerome in a district semifinal.

Reagan Ross, Olentangy

A senior forward, the Belmont commit collected 26 goals and 14 assists and was first-team all-district and all-OCC-Cardinal and second-team all-state in Division I. The Braves (16-5) lost to Liberty 1-0 on penalty kicks in a district final.

Whitney Scott, Dublin Coffman

A junior forward, Scott had 28 goals and seven assists and was first-team all-district and all-OCC-Central and second-team all-state in Division I. The Shamrocks (15-3-1) lost to Berlin 2-1 in overtime in a district final.

Maci Tew, Grandview Heights

The sophomore midfielder had 25 goals and 22 assists and was first-team all-state and all-district in Division III. She also was CBL co-Player of the Year. The Bobcats (15-4-2) won a district championship before losing to Cincinnati Country Day 4-0 in a regional semifinal.
