2022-23 final Philadelphia 76ers player grades: Tobias Harris

The 2022-23 season has ended for the Philadelphia 76ers following a Game 7 loss to the Boston Celtics in Round 2 of the playoffs and now is the time for reflection on the season.

The Sixers finished 54-28 and were third in the Eastern Conference behind only the Milwaukee Bucks and the Celtics in the standings. Considering the slow 12-12 start, the season was a success for the Sixers despite the sour and familiar ending.

Now that the season is in the books, now is the time to go back and give a grade to each player on the roster for what they did throughout the season. In this installment, Sixers Wire will look at veteran forward Tobias Harris and the season he had.

Thoughts

Harris had himself another solid season. Is it worthy of his hefty contract? No, but for a No. 4 option on this team, he did really some good things for Philadelphia out on the floor.

On the season, Harris shot 41% on corner 3s and he became a reliable catch-and-shoot player for James Harden whenever he drove into the paint. Harris shot 38.7% on catch-and-shoot 3s on the season as he continued to transition into the new role the Sixers were asking him to do.

Defensively, he took on the opposition’s best scorer on a nightly basis. The Sixers relied on him to take on the likes of Jayson Tatum, Pascal Siakam, Khris Middleton, Jalen Brunson, and others in a tough Eastern Conference and he answered the call every time. He was impressive on the defensive end all season.

In the playoffs, though, it was a bit of a familiar story. Harris was terrific in Round 1 against the Brooklyn Nets as he averaged 20.3 points and 8.8 rebounds while shooting 56.7% from the floor and 57.1% from deep.

In Round 2 against the Boston Celtics, Harris’s numbers dropped to 12.4 points and 6.4 rebounds and he shot 48.6% from the floor and 25.9% from deep. He deserves credit for his defense against Tatum (before Game 7 at least), but the drop in offensive production was all too familiar for him come Round 2.

Final grade: B+
